Manual hubs lock in but wont come out?

Hey im sure this is a common problem with an easy fix but i just got done putting my hub back together and when i lock it in place for 4x4 it engages but when put it to free it stays engaged? I have a bad u joint and i was wondering if this could be part of the issue?

I would unbolt just the part that you turn to lock and free the hubs and look. There should be a raised part that I think should engage against another part to lock the hubs out(free position). I think that's how it should be, I never had a problem so I never really paid attention. I would check there anyway.

that big coil spring in there is probably getting weak, mine comes out with little sense of urgency. Although that is also due to packing that area with grease.

If the outer drive axle joint is seized it will put a side load on the hub mechanism and that is often enough to prevent it from unlocking.

Conanski is the outer drive axle joint the one thats behind the knucke? I also noticed that it is hard to spin that hub where as my passagner side spins free and easy compared to this on so im not sure why its hard?
