E4OD not shifting into gear - challenging problem

I just ran the 351W I built through its initial 30 min break in period. So far so good with the motor. The transmission won't engage into any gear (forward or reverse), only the parking gear seems to work.

The background of this is that a couple of years ago I upgraded from SD to MASS Air and in order to get the MASS Air computer to work with an E4OD, I have one of these - Baumannator TCS. As far as I can tell this is setup and working properly. Need to wait until Monday to call them to get their thoughts on this whole issue.

I removed the transmission pan when the motor was out and I replaced some parts (reconditioning kit). What I did wasn't hard or complicated, I didn't go too far into the transmission. I feel I put it back together fine but I am no expert.

I also had a custom built torque converter. I filled the transmission so the dipstick is full but I am not sure if fluid has got through the entire system yet, I think I still need to add another gallon of fluid.

This is sort of a first shot in troubleshooting and a shot in the dark because I realize I have a custom setup but I think there has got to be a basic set of tests or something I can do to see what parts work and what parts don't work.

Anyone?

she's not going anywhere that low on juice.
your first test is to start it,make sure fluid is flowing through the cooler, and topping up the fluid asap before you hurt the pump or converter.
she'll have reverse and 2nd (in manual 1st or 2nd position) without any electrical.

You will need around 16 to 18 quarts to fill that transmission and torque converter.

did the tranny come out of the truck for any reason? perhaps the solenoid pack is fouled up or not connected. this will keep the tranny from going thru the gears also.

but like said above make sure you have the proper amount of fluid in there.

Maybe I wasn't patient enough. I thought it wasn't taking any more fluid but it actually is. I didn't run it yesterday, worked on other things but hope to get to it this week.

So far things seem to be fine with the motor and the tranny is still taking in some fluid but I ran into something that made want to stop and see if this is right.

My first issue is that I don't know 100% how much fluid is in the tranny but a good guess is ~3.5 gal. It's taking in fluid but not as fast and it is shifting into all the forward drive gears. I haven't yet moved the truck under the power of the transmission because when I shift into reverse, I hear a noise like metal rubbing so I shut everything down right away.

I just didn't want to proceed if this doesn't sound right.

I realized the Baumann Transmission Controller didn't have power, the fuse was loose. I'll see if that makes a difference tomorrow.

If you ran that transmision with low ATF for a long while (and i mean like 10 minutes) the heat probably caused some damage, that's a shame...

Yeah, something is wrong where I don't want to push it. I wouldn't consider this a major issue, I was planning on having it rebuilt anyway (it can't handle the power of the motor). Just need to do it sooner than later. It's just money, right? I mean this is my Ford we are talking about here

Thanks for the help.
