new (to me) truck

i usually just jump on here to research info about my trucks. i have had several ford trucks. i have had an 06' harley f150 awd, 04' f250 fx4, 05' f150 stx, and an 03' f150 fx4. i am no stranger to the ford trucks. i just got tired of making payments so i decided to pick this bad boy up. its a 96' XL 300 L6 2wd and its the first one of this body style that i have owned. the previous owner said it has a 4" lift but i have no way of verifying it. i thought i'd post a pic and see what the verdict is. it looks to be lifted somewhat but i'm not sure if its just a leveling kit. it has 31x10.5 tires.

the motor seems to run fine for 170k but i know its a little tired and thus it will be getting a new one soon. this is my daily now so it will be a mild 300 build with a compression bump to 9.5, ported head with 1.9/1.6 valves, a comp 252 cam, roller rockers, and exhaust. i found a local machine shop to do the rebuild for 1300 with everything included.

Sometimes I wish I had a new truck but I guess your right on the payments not having one is nice. That truck sure does look nice as for lift its really hard to tell from the pic. My guess is leveling kit but if you get the chance just glance under it and check for either a rubber spacer under the coil spring, or larger drop brackets, (mounded under engine crossmember and under feet on cab)that allows for largers coil springs. I hope this helps and again sweet truck!

I'd believe the 4" lift since its a 2wd. It sits about the same as my 4wd with a 2"front and 2.5" rear lift if not a bit higher in the front.

yeah i know its hard to tell from the pic. that is why i included the tire size. i don't really know how much lift is required on these trucks to run 33's, but i figured 4" would be enough for that, but it doesn't look like i can go much bigger than what's on it so that leads me to believe it is a leveling kit. i'm don't think there are any spacers under the coils but i know that you can run f250 springs to level it out too. thanks for the info.

i was thinking about that after i just made that last post. maybe 2wd trucks require more lift to get the same tire sizes under it that a 4x4 would with less lift. i really wouldn't know because i have only lifted 4x4 trucks.

Nice lookin' truck! I just got rid of my '04 Superduty to ditch payments and picked up the '95 in my sig for a song as my new daily so I know where you're coming from. I'd have no problem believing it's a 4" lift especially when I look at the clearance you have from the bottom of your rockers to the ground. It's alot higher than a simple leveling kit is gonna get you especially since we're talking a 2WD to begin with.

Pics are worth a thousand words so here you go for comparison:
'95 in my sig with stock suspension and 32x11.5x15 all terrains.

yeah i love not having payments. i have always had one ever since i could remember. its not that i cant afford them, i just figured i can do just fine with a truck with out all the bells and whistles. one thing is for sure though; the 11 mpg this thing gets right now almost makes my fuel equal a car payment. lol. it think its because i have an intermittent cel. i haven't done the koeo or koer tests yet though, but i think its the egr since its intermittent and usually at idle or decel.

nice truck so i guess i probably can squeeze some 33's under it if in do infact have a 4" lift. i know with the 31's on it now i have a kick *** turning radius. lol.

you in the af? must be nice to sationed in hawaii. i was stationed at cannon afb for my 6 years. now i work at lockheed on the f-35. i have a buddy in hawaii. hes non military though. he drives a true blue 00 gt.

Nope, former USMC F-18 guy. I'm a contractor teaching Close Air Support to the Marines out here. My wife is the active duty one now with 4yrs left to get her 20 in. We're at Kaneohe Bay, HI on the other side of Oahu from Hickam AFB and Honolulu. Not bad being out here but it's definately different living here than it is vacationing. Only real complaint I've got is the limited amount of areas to go 4 wheeling!
