I have an 05 Expedition that is needing cam phasers and I can't seem to find them anywhere but at a Ford dealer. If anyone can help me locate them for cheaper than $248/each I would greatly appreciate it. I also need the wedge specialty tool as well. I know there are some guys on here that said they got them for under $200 so your input and info would be nice!!! Thanks in advance!!

Try Rockauto.com for starters. I'll assume you tried Napa

 

Napa and o'reilly doesnt carry the phasers or the wedge i called and asked with specific part numbers.

 

$248 is high, we usually pay around $175. Try searching some of the Ford dealers online. A lot of people I know use Gaudin Ford in Las vegas. I would also do the lifters and rockers while you are in there.

 

We have a few sponsors here in FTE who are online Ford OEM dealers too. Horizon Ford (Seattle area, www.partsguyed.com ) and Tousley Ford (Tousley Ford Parts Depot) Both seem to have better pricing than the average consumer enjoys through their local Ford dealers. I've used Ed's outfit a few times although he's no longer working for them.

Well i think i talked the dealer into buying the phasers for me. He said to bring it in and he would have it fixed in two weeks. Well two weeks is too long without my vehicle so i told him to get the parts and i would do it myself. I have already thought about doing the lash adjusters and rockers while in the engine. Guessing i can get those from the places yall suggested as well?? What about the wedge?? I will need that as well. Anyone out there that can loan it to me for a week or so?? Thank yall for the input and advice!

I would definetly do the lifters and rockers while your in there. Your dealer should have those in stock. The wedge should be available from your local tool supplier Mac, Cornwell or SnapOn.

 

Thanks man, are there any other specialty tools i may need to complete this job? And about how long will this process take? I am wanting to set aside a weekend to do this hoping that will be enough time.

 

You should be able to do it in a weekend no problem. I've done a half dozen or so of these and it ususually takes around 5-7 hours. The worse part of the job is getting everything apart so you can get the valve covers off.
The only specialty tool you need is the wedge. You will, however, probably have to drain and recharge your AC. Just be sure to wedge the tool in firmly to hold the chain and make sure to mark the chain on one of the two timings marks and reinstall the same way when you do the phasers.
