I have gotten this cam from a guy and was wondering what it was. I know its for a FE and its ford made beacause it has FoMoCo cast into it. The only other castings I see is are on the very back it has 382X and on the one side it says 1096, EDC, and 13. Anybody know what I got here, I would like to know if its something I can use.
highboy, I don't have specs or application for that cam, but I can guess that it is a stock grind since non of those ID's show under performance cam. That being said I would not use it due to the tremendous advances in camshaft technology since 1976 when the FE ended factory production. Even the hi po grinds from Ford are a far cry from what is available now.
you could set it up with a dial indicator, degree and measure and you can come up with the profile. It's a bit of work but that's the only way to know what you have if you can't find some written specs.
Are you sure it's 382X and not a C8AX number? There are two 427 Ford cams one mech and one hyd.
C8AX-D was a radical mech cam pretty much race only 4000-7000 peak RPM
And...
C8AE-C was a milder hyd version.
The other thing is the EDC marking which could make it an early 58-59 cam. I've looked through the basic numbers I have without finding much. I can refine my search and look again. Most of my material is packed away so I don't have full access to everything right now. But I'll see what I can find.... You can post this on the FE forum on net54 also. I'm sure Shoe, Royce or Hawkrod can help. If your not a registered member I'll post it for you if you like.
On the outside plain brown wrapper is it hand written or a Ford label that said "Ford 352-428 full race cam"? Also on the very back do you mean the flat end of the cam? And are the 382X, 1096, EDC, 13 all on the flat end? Or are some on the side of the cam? Just need to have the facts straight. I'll post this over there for you.
The 382X is stamped on the back flat side of the last bearing, and the other stuff is written on the side between the last bearing and the last lobe. Thanks for posting it.
www.fordfe.com it's almost all the way down pg 1 and no replies yet?? I can email a few guys if you get no answers there also. I've pretty much come up empty on this one. The funny thing is the EDC and the 382X sounds very familiar to me.....but I can't place it.
