Can anyone ID this cam?

I have exhausted a search for info on this. Perhaps some of you Ford wizards can help me.

I was given a new cam and lifters (looks like new-no scuffing on the lobes or lifters) that supposedly came out of a new 1995 HO Lightning 351W crate engine (the owner decided to use another cam, and has since moved away). I am trying to determine what cam it is. There is no common Ford part number on it, but the Ford logo (w/oval) is cast between the last lobe and the back bearing race. On the rear of that race (back of the cam) are stamped: CM 320. There is a dot of yellow paint next to this.

Between the front bearing race and the timing gear is a circle (around the cam) of purple paint. There are several numbers and letters cast along the shaft between the lobes as follows: CWC (with a dot of yellow paint), C1, D1, 27, F5, 1237. There is about .280" lift at both intake and exhaust lobes (about .450" total valve lift). There is no other info on the cam.

The Ford Motorsport website shows that there are several of these engines, all using a cam numbered E7JE-6250-AA, and while there are several of these 6250 cams listed, I can find no specs for this particular one. I know that outside vendors often contracted to make cams for the crate engines, but there's no manufacturer marking, except for the Ford logo.

Can anyone ID this cam? Or advise on a website with such info? Many thanks!

No luck on this yet?

Maybe a call to the local dealership parts or service departments would yield some info...on the other hand, probably not.

Thanks TigerDan. I actually tried that without success. Sadly, in my neck of the woods most of the dealers are combined dealerships (yep, Ford, Chevy, and others all in the same building). I'm near a college town, so most of the parts guys are kids who are good with numbers but barely know what a piston is! After half an hour I got frustrated and left. I'm thinking about writing Ford Motorsport and seeing what they say.

Hmm, sorta sounds like Chico...

So, I'm assuming this is a roller cam?

Yep, Chico. You must be nearby if you know what I mean. Anyway, no, it's a flat tappet cam. My understanding was that the guy (he's gone now and I don't know where), bought a 351W crate engine from Ford Motorsport. he bought it about one year ago. He claimed that it was a HO(?) Lightning engine (he said 1995-?), and that he was scrapping the cam for something better, and gave me the cam and lifters (they are indeed new). I'm thinking about using it in one of my presently stock 302 (with firing order change) to get just a tad better performance, but I want to know it's specs. I have noticed on the Ford Motorsport website that most of the milder 351W crate engines use the E7JE-6250-AA cam, and I was wondering if that's what I have, but although it is the stated cam on the website, the website has no specs on it!!! Go figure! So I'm back to searching.

I'm a few hours away, but I've spent some time in your neck of the woods. Used to live near Redding and some of my friends went to CSU...done a wee bit of partying there.

So far I'm at a loss on this cam. I can't find any reference to it (at least by those numbers) in any of my books.

A '95 H.O should be roller, so I think he was off a bit on his info to you. I'll keep looking.

A stock roller with a .280 lobe lift would be a std GT/HO 5.0 cam. E7JE-6250-AA would be a Marine part # which would be correct for a flat tappet Windsor.

Thanks baddad457,

I think that may be what this is, but I can find no specs for the E7JE-6250-AA. Do you know them?

Try looking for those specs in a Haynes manual. My Ford 5.0 book doesn't have them,( that I'm aware of) Or try asking some of the Lightning guys. That's likely the stock cam for a Lightning.

Hi TigerDan,

Not much new....except....I've noticed around the web that some Ford crate engine cams were made by Camshaft Machine Co. somewhere in the mid-west(?). I mentioned that on the rear of the back journal is stamped CM 320 (with a small M inside the C) Hummm....CM, so of course I wondered if CM could be Camshaft Machine! I found their website, but unfortunately the page says "New Website Coming In Spring 2005!"...which was half a year ago. There was also no e-mail address. So the search goes on...not that I think this is a killer cam or anything like that (actually, I think it's an RV/torque style cam-which I could use) but because I'm irritated now and determined to find out! Heh, heh.
