Another fuel filter change

Here’s another good 6.7L PSD health report. 27,150.8 miles. 906 engine hours.
The "pump" threads have been overwhelming so I'm posting my findings, too.
Epic has a video so his posts are always better!

One result I was waiting on was to see if my DFCM filter looked like my first filter change.
It was much cleaner so this new fuel station is where I’ll refuel as much as possible although a bit out of my weekly commuting path.
It’s a sacrifice I’ll take for my fuel system.
I am keeping my 15,000 mile filter changes for now and will not be changing to 10,000 mile changes although I was early on this change.

Before everyone gets bored, is this plastic yellow clip in the correct position?
I pulled the inlet hose from here first realizing there is another piece still connected.
I couldn’t remember if this is how it looked before but the hose is secured.

As Darren mentioned, this second DFCM bowl removal was difficult.
It did concern me that I might break it but slow and steady gets it done.
Both filters. Cut open, no metal deposits.
Engine mounted filter cut open in second picture, DFCM filter cut open in third picture.
DFCM looks good in fourth picture.

I changed my main air filter last.
This must be a new design because I had two and both looked like this.
Easy to correct but annoying none-the-less.

Here are some audio recordings (sorry, no video from me).
The first recording is the first three purge cycles.
There’s some interesting noises but nothing you wouldn’t expect.
About 15 seconds after KOEO things get started.
Fuel system pain at 0:24 (I guess???)
Some air noises at the engine filter @ 1:17.

By the 7th and 8th purges, I was getting a bit nervous because this is what I started hearing.
At 0:14 more air noises with some howling noises.
At 1:03 more squealing noises.
At 1:42 after key off a new noise appears in this purge process.
It still does it but I don’t know what it is.
You can hear the transmission making it’s noises in the background.

A few more purge cycles, the air/squealing noises went away and this last recording is nothing more than success.
I know the manual says 6 key cycles but due to the air noises, I felt more was necessary.

Idled it for about five minutes while I cleaned things up and drove for about a half hour; 55-65 hwy speeds.
This was mostly for the oil change that there’s no need to discuss.
I like to get the fresh oil circulating for a few miles.

Hey kper. Great info and report. Couple of things...

Your yellow clip IS in the right position (assuming mine is too). I haven't disconnected there and it's still in that position from the factory.

All those sounds are actually very normal. I'm sure you didn't need to go beyond the six purges. Yesterday when I finished mine, the truck started normally. The first fuel filter change took an extra second of crank time so this time was slightly different. Next time just let the truck make all the screeching and hissing sounds and don't worry about it.

On the air filter, has anyone found putting the main cap back on to be a pain? I really had to work to line up the three tabs and seat correctly over the filter.

Just a thought; Some here are blaming the lack of lubricity caused by water in the fuel for eventual HPFP failures. While it's clear you guys do the full 6 (+) cycles of the pump to re-prime the system, if a tech at the dealer just started cranking the motor, wouldn't the HPFP be starved for fuel pretty quickly and therefore have NO lubrication?

Yup. But remember, they are trained professionals. It's just that sometimes they don't have much training and aren't very professional.

Sorry Cheezit & Vloney. That wasn't meant for you...

Great report and pictures, thanks for sharing! As Epic advised, your yellow clip looks to be in the proper position, it looks the same as mine.

Thanks for the verifications on the yellow clip.

I was pleased with the results of the fuel filters.
That other station must have too much crap in their tanks.
These filters have actually visited other stations whereas my first filters were at the same station except for dealer fill.

What's also good to know is it has been raining here a lot so I've probably refueled in rain five or so times over the past two months and no water.
The ground around here is certainly saturated.

Yes the air filter box is a pain.
The fourth tab near the engine is the most difficult.

Only downside is, I forgot to take an oil sample; oh well.

Did my filters today. Sorry, no video or audio reports.

20032.3 mile on original fuel filters.
619 engine hours+124 idle hours.

No surprises or glitter when I cut open the filters.

Only cycled my key 6 times and she fired right up.

I am glad I watched all the videos because I surely would have worn all 13 quarts of engine oil, thanks EPIC!

No problems removing either fuel filter, but as Epic has already stated, the air box is a pain to get back on, although it does seem to seal much better than my '96 7.3.

I forgot to mention, thanks to the members here I wasted much less diesel fuel and didn't take a diesel bath this time by loosening the bowl three full turns prior to draining.
I didn't know that the first time and I read the manual.
Ford could have shared that with us...just sayin'.
