Opinions wanted: Should i replace the main tank?
My truck has dual tanks.
Main tank is in the cab.
Auxillary is behind the rear wheels.
Took the cab tank out to get cleaned out, it was a goner. Too far gone to be repaired. We have been using the truck without the tank for a short while now and everyone in the family likes the extra storage and the better safety with the in cab tank gone. We also like not having to hear the gas slosh all the time.
In your opinion what would you do?
1) Put it back in, it is factory.
2) Leave it out, the family likes it better.
3) Save the cash and put in a new saddle tank for a second tank.

Well i remember when Daddy had his 67 and 70 models that i hated hearing all that gas sloshing around behind me. Wondering if we ever did have an accident if we wouldnt blow up in a fiery ball. We have also gotten used to not having all that noise and gas smell in the cab too. i guess the cab tank is now gone. Looking for a wrecked/junked long bed truck now that will have the saddle tanks and two fuel doors on it. If anyone knows of one please contact me.

A friend of mine fliped his High Boy end over end and the back window came out, so did one of his arms and it got pinned under the roof. Gas was running everywhere including all over him, lucky for him it never went up. To this day he is still horrified whenever it comes up in conversation. Because of that he will never ride in a truck that has a tank behind the seat. Something to think about if you have on back there.

+1 on getting rid my the in cab fuel tank. I have one in my 77 F150 I just bought. The PO did away with the rear tank, so I plan on removing the in cab and installing a 38 or 19 gallon behind the rear axle. I want the storage space and really don't like the idea of 20 gallons of gas riding in the cab with me.
