Looking At 2000 F350

I'm looking at a 2000 F350 Extended Cab, with a 7.3 Power Stroke, DRW, 6 speed standard trans, and 145000 miles on the clock. A couple of questions I have, I'm planning to pull a 24 X8.5 enclosed trailer with it total weight around 10,000 pounds? Will this truck handle it better than the 2007 F350 Crew cab 6.0, 4WD, Auto, that I had a few years back, That truck was nothing but trouble, front suspension, transmission, engine, and even when it was running good it still couldn't climb the mountains in West Virginia. Would you buy it to do what I'm attempting which is haul my hotrod and Harley back and forth to Florida

Well, I have a very similar truck (the one in my signature) and just towed a 10K lbs trailer from GA to Seattle and back this past summer. With that mileage, I would be afraid to ask what the price is, but if it is worth it to you, then that is all that matters.

The truck, if in good mechanical condition will pull the load just fine.

EDIT: The only modifications my truck had during the time of the pull from GA to WA and back was minor improvements like the CAC boots and IH water pump. The exhaust, GH Hydra tuner, and gauges were not on yet. I reckon that this summer will be an even better towing experience.

I just recently hand calculated 18.25 MPG's unloaded over the course of a week. I probably could have gotten it close to 19 MPG, but this was directly after installing the tune and new compressor wheel so I got on it a bit more than I should have while using on ramps and what not. The ZF6 is a beast, nothing more to add.

A manual tranny 7.3 ....No sweeter truck ever made. You may want a tuner which will lead to a new clutch(SouthBend single disc) but you will be a solid, powerful, reliable runner with your trailer. I've had one 7.3 and one 6.0 auto and they were trouble and dogs with worse mpgs than my others with the manual tranny.

I bought a 2000 F350 DRW 4x4 auto 6 months ago with 90,000 miles. I love the truck, and it tows with the 4.10 gears. Towing 10,000 pounds will be no problem for you. Take everyone's advice, get gauges and then decide about upgrades. Mine is still stock, but in the future I might just do the intake, exahaust, and chip. I would get it if the price is right, I'm in for $15k which I think is a great price. But had to buy it with a lance camper for $21k and just sold the lance for $6k. The 7.3 is a true industrial diesel and works like one.

That mileage is nothing for a 7.3 powerstroke. A pre-emissions, hippie juice free monster. The zf6 is the best manual ever put in a super duty before the auto really took over and made manuals obsolete. I guess it's 4x2? Still oughtta be around $15,000.

Yes. It will pull better, get better mpgs, give you less headache, and put a bigger smile on your face than that 6.0
