I have 2000 F350 7.3 auto srw 4wd super cab--if this truck was a crew cab and had dual wheels then we are not having this conversation. I pull a 4 horse trailer with living quarters. Truck and trailer weigh 27,000 loaded. I AM NOT TRYING TO START A 7.3 VS 6.0 OR 6.4 WAR. But my question is this: there are several trucks available in the 2005 6.0 auto duallie 4wd cc for around 25k and there are several newer versions of this truck with the 6.4(more money of course). I love my 7.3 and have did a few mods to it and have no plans to get rid of it, however I have driven a dual wheel version of my truck and when it comes to pulling a heavy trailer there is no contest, so which version is the way to go. New trucks at a MSRP of 60k plus is too steep for me.
Either a '06-'07 6.0L with a clean Oasis report or a '09-'10 6.4L with a clean Oasis. Couldn't agree more on the dually working better with the heavy loads. If you get a 6.0L, even with a clean report I'd want the extra 2yr/100K mile warranty to be on the safe side. Some people think '05 will work for the 6.0L's but ours was nothing but trouble.
2005 F350 cc dually 6.0 auto 4wd(cab interior does not seem to effect price very much on used) with approximately 60k runs $25,000 to $27,000 at dealer 2006 around $27,000 then a lot of 2008 and 2009 are available at around $29,000 to $30,000 plus. Interestingly enough I have not located any 2007 in this area. Coincidence or some other reason-did folks have particular fondness for this year.
