Should my water temp gauge be dropping while driving?

I have an 04 5.4, The water temperature gauge usually always runs dead center, but sometimes i have noticed it drop down almost back down to the 1/4 mark? I have never had another vehicle change once its up to temperature no matter how hard it was towing or how hot/cold it was outside. Is this Normal with these trucks ?

Sounds like you might have a thermostat that's acting up. It should not vary much at all while driving...under normal conditions. Mine ('06 5.4L) doesn't move much at all once up to temp.

May look at the temp sensor, usually a faulty thermostat will not cause the temp to go down. It will either cause the temp to up (stuck closed) or just rise very slowly to normal operating temp (stuck open).
