Water Temp fluctuating

my gauge fluctuates (NORMAL)(on gauge) the (R) to the (A) under normal driving conditions... back and forth...is this just the stat opening and closing ?? or is this something I need to be concerned about ?

Sounds like it's just you're thermostat open and closing. Long as you're not running in the hot area, but staying normal.

My buddy has a 93 with a 302. manual trans. His temp has never been above the "m", mainly between "O" and "M". ya may be just a tencie bit warm, but I wouldnt be too alarmed unless it gets over "A-L".

yes, your thermostat is opening and closing...have you put any type of radiator seal stuff into your truck? That crud is infamous for clogging up smaller channels and screwing up your thermostat... If there are any questions as to wether you think that you should replace your t-stat (opening and closing quickly/opening after it's assigned temp), change it. It is only 15 bucks, but the insurance that it will not overheat (for that reason) while driving is well worth the money.

I had this problem about 8 years ago. It did it for about two months. Then it opened for good. It would never warm up. (it was in Canada in winter) Changed the thermistat. I'm glad it didnt fail in the closed possition.

depending on what year it is, you could also have an air pocket in your cooling system. the newer EFI systems have that small tube from the radiator to the throttle boddy are known for sucking air in the system when they leak
