New Vintage USA Gauges
Hello, has anyone installed the Woodward Series Gauge set from new vintage?
Here is a picture of what the gauges look like, they seem to be clones of the original.

The question I have is since this is an electronic speedometer does the pulse generator supplied in the kit screw onto the transmission where the factory speedometer cable used to? The guy from new vintage said the pulse generator is a 7/8x18 thread. Is that the same thread as the factory speedo cable? I would just hate to buy this kit and this piece not fit or I need an adapter or a different pice from another company.
Thanks!

There are 2 sending unit standards, "Ford" and "everyone else".
I bought an autometer kit and naively got the Ford sending unit without looking at the trans, turns out the old old school transmission uses the 7/8 x 18 screw in style (which is the "everyone else").
Take a look at these two products, autometer 5291 (the everyone else) and autometer 5292 (the Ford).

Not saying to buy these - get the one with your kit - but there is a good pic, and you can tell by tracing your speedo cableback.
If you have a crash box spur gear 4 speed then you need the 5291 / everyone else.
Any other transmission I advise you to unscrew the cable and check it will be obvious - hold down screw versus large dia threaded cable.
[edit] and yes you will be eliminating the mechanical speedo cable, the sending unit screw into the top of the trans, and you run wiring back to the speedo from the sending unit.

I have the New Vintage Woodward set installed with a Ford C6 transmission. I like the look of the gauges, and the price is right, but I had several issues with them.
I had to calibrate the temp and the oil pressure gauges using resistors to get them to read correctly. Also, the speedo didn't calibrate correctly as documented, I had to use the trial-and-error method using my GPS to get it calibrated. Also the fuel gauge only works with the Stewart Warner type sending unit, it does not work with a standard Ford sending unit. Changing the sending unit is a major pain because I would have to remove the bed to get to my rear-mounted tank.
Would I do it again if I had it to do over again? Probably, because I haven't found any other gauges that fit the '51-'52 F1 dash as well.
