Speedometer ?

This May Sound Silly, But How Do You Set Up An After Market Speedometer To Read Right. I Have A 90 F150 I Am Building A New Instrument Cluster For, Because The Ford Factory Gauges Are A Joke, But I Have To Replace The Speedo And I Have Never Installed One Aftermarket, Because Im Sure You Couldnt Just Plug It Up And It Know Your Vehicle. And Any Input On Gauges Would Help To As I Havent Bought Them Yet.

My factory speedo matches GPS speed perfect through all ranges. As for aftermarket, they should provide you with necessary information on how to make it work. There are a lot of variables for speed sensing depending on where you want to monitor it from. Keep in mind that your computer still needs speed information to make decisions with.

You just got to figure out if you want to go mechanical, with a cable which is stock. Or if you want to go with the new fangled electronic, then you will have to install a sending unit where the cable plugs into the trans and run wires to the guage.

or get one of those wind gauge kind! they not only look neat but aren't accurate worth a crap while driving through a hurrican!!! haha

My stock gauge is way off too no clue how to fix it... i just drive with everyone else

My speedo cable was sticking in my mustang, the long tubes hit the cable and melted it, whoops didnt notice. It was stuck at like 50 when I was sitting at a light, finally fixed it with a new cable. If its electronic it could be alot of things.

My 95 F350 is cable so im guessing yours is. Id pull the guage 1 day and see if the cable is free or not, maybe spray some pb down the cable to temp lube it and see if it spins the right speed. With 36's im off by like 3mph. So unless you got some 44's, and gears yours should be good. On my mustang speedo when I was changing it from the lame 85mph to the frpp 160mph one, you could hold the back where the cable spins and move the pointed, it wasnt sitting on 0mph lol.

All The Electronics Are Gone It Has A Carbed 460 In It Now. IVE GOT ALOT TO FINISH UP ON THE TRUCK AND I HAVENT EVEN GOT THE TRANS IN IT YET, YOU KNOW HOW PROJECTS GO, LOL. BUT I WAS JUST WONDERING ABOUT THE SPEEDO CAUSE I NEED IT TO BE PRETTY ACCURATE CAUSE SPEEDING TICKETS GET EXPENSIVE, AND ITS HARD TO KEEP MY FOOT OUT OF A BIG BLOCK, LOL.

Your factory speedo is cable driven? I thought all F-series after 92 used a PSOM.

Maybe it was only the 1/2 tons.
