I always thought they had better stopping power and cooled quicker while pulling heavy loads especially if you live in hills or mountains

I'm having problems with brake fade on steep grades. (see my other post).
I know I can get more out of my rear brakes, but I'm running 1200 lbs overweight and would like to have all the help I can get.
Thank,
Mike

you got trailer brakes set up right?

i don't think that going with slotted and c-drilled rotors will help enough. they will still get hot and fade. they may just take longer to get to fading.

the big thing about them is they eat brake pads like crazy. that is why they are not really good for street use.
when racing, you need all the braking power you can get and have no worry about eating pads.

Thanks Tom and EB,
I'll work on getting my rear brakes working better and look into a hydroboost setup.

what tjc said they eat through pads like no other... just another part that will fail quicker and more $$$ to fix or replace, along with the hydroboost setup look into the rear dick brake conversion as well... might help

Or you could look into a exhaust brake.

well,now that you mention exhaust brake,they do make one for our trucks,but they cost a little coin (or a lot of coin to me lol.a bit over 1k) ;

I checked out those exhaust brakes, about $1040. Alot of money, but better than a new truck, (or a new casket), if I can't slow this rig down

you have to be very careful with exhaust brakes. with a 22.5to 1 compression ratio our engines have, it is just as easy or easier to blow a head gasket out of the engine with an exhaust brake than it is to do it by overboosting the engine.
