2006 6.0 runs rough, and shifts hard until operating Temp.

I have a 06 F350 6.0. For the past two months or so my truck runs and shifts awful until it gets up to operating temp regardless of outside temp. Also along with this problem, my cruise control tries to work and then it starts to hesitate/sputter until I hit the off button. The last symptom is my ON/OFF light on my Tow Haul mode on the shift lever does not illuminate. Dealer says my PCM module is not communicating with the engine. What do you guys think? Hate to spend $1,500 on a part thats not covered under warranty when its something that might be covered.

Truck has 78,000, no modifications of any kind.

That sounds like injector issues. What kind of oil are you using?

Did the dealer give you a list of codes the truck had? Or did it have any?

Does the cruise control issue go away after it's warm?

Dealer said no codes because the PCM is bad.

Cruise issue does not go away after warmed up.

Reason I'm asking is the dealer has had my truck for 28 days and the service manager is screwing with me because I called FoMoCo after 20 days. I would take it somewhere else but my service ticket is open and my warranty ran out on 9/15. If the ticket is closed, my warranty is out.

Well, if you switch to a 5W-40 synthetic you may have better luck with the rough running/hard shift issue. You may also want to do some research on the Rev-X product. Some people have great results, and some don't. I'd say it's about 50% success rate, but don't quote me on that. If that doesn't help you may be looking at replacing some injectors. But you're saying that the shop is contending that this PCM issue is causing this issue it sounds like. Not sure how likely that is knowing that this typically is caused by injector 'stiction.'

28 days is pretty extreme for a Ford dealer to have your truck. Have they been waiting on a decision from you about the PCM replacement? Do they plan on doing any other work to resolve the issue? You're right, you are stuck and have to leave it there, but I would make sure they are covering every issue before it comes out.

As far as the PCM losing it's communication skills and the truck still running - that's definitely above my pay grade to answer. Hopefully a tech will chime in and give you their thoughts...

The ruff running untill warm could be the FICM clasic sign of a bad one could also be injector stiction or injector orings

at any rate the FICM Volts need to be checked

I took my truck in on 9/06/11 for:

Reason #1 being the rough running and shifting until up to operating temp.
Reason #2 being cruise does not work.
Reason #3 being Tow/Haul light not illuminating
Reason #4 being small oil leak on garage floor.

Truck had 78,xxx when they recieved my truck on 9/6/11 with my 5 years running out on 9/15/11.

Dealer called me and said my cruise works fine and that they "thoroughly road tested it" but my trip odometer only had 3 tenths on it from me resetting it when parked there.
Then they told me they cant pull any codes because my PCM is bad and that is "probably" why my shifter On/Off light is off and "probably" also why my truck runs rough.

They said all they could do under warranty is fix the oil leak, which ended up beind the rear engine cover. (which they have yet to start on)

Unless I am mistaken, you need to be doing at least 30 miles an hour to get the cruise control to set and maintain speed. How the heck they were able to determine that nothing is wrong with the cruise control in 3/10 of a mile is a mystery to me. Just sayin'

I'm not a genius by no means. But sounds to me like that dealership is full of sh!$. If PCM is no good an truck was still under warranty. Then they should replace it as warranty idem. If they wouldn't. I would be raising all sorts of h3ll. But that's just me.

Service manager said PCM was not covered under warranty in the same phone conversation that he lied to me and said they "thoroughly road tested" my truck. After I knew they could not have road tested it in 3/10 of a mile I called FoMoCo to tell them (13 days in the shop at this point) While on the phone I had the rep verify whether or not the PCM was covered. Rep says its covered under an 8 year/80,000 mile emissions warranty.

PCM is $1,100 bucks plus 4 hours labor they told me.

Truck is also supposed to get the oil leak fixed under warranty. Currently my ticket is still open, but as soon as they close the ticket when oil leak is fixed my engine isssues are all on me. Truck has been there now going on 30 days and still no answeres. Service manager said to me "You know it really pisses me off when you go and call FoMoCo like that and that could be why its taking your truck so long to get fixed"

I have now called FoMoCo three times on him because of the delay and naturally he is hot.
He has my truck sitting in the far corner in the shop so he can tell Ford that "its in the shop" he even said so himself

sorry for the long post - jared

I am seriously thinking of calling Ford Motor monday morning to see if I can get my truck moved to a different dealership while keeping my service ticket open. I think it would be in the best interest of my truck, and also the service managers career to have it at a different shop. After the way the serivce manager has treated and spoke to me I honestly dont trust him.
