Not really a bad question. I bought my '03 new, and the thing ran and performed awesome. Then I took it in to the dealer for the free oil/filter change, and when I got my truck back it was terrible. I took back no less than 3 times with no success. Finally took it to a different dealer, and they returned it running back to its much better. Come to find out the CA trucks were reflashed as part of a recall (I was never told that, and I had no idea what a "flash'' was). My guess is that the mechanic doing the flash didn't really have a clue what he/she was doing. A "flash" is a change to the onboard computer that runs your truck. A knowledgeable tech (this forum has some great techs that know quite a bit more than I do) is worth his weight in gold when it comes to working on these trucks. Good luck, hope this helps.

All my flashes have been performed by dealer as a drivability issue from Ford. All under warranty, but should be non-pay , OK.

The "flash" referred to is a Ford authorized programming modification to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), the TCM (Transmission Control Module), and/or the FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module). Since the inception of the 6.0, there have been numerous "flashes" all of which should be covered under your powertrain warranty.
