Can someone get me a picture for reference of how the column goes through that access panel and how the brake pedals are hung....

Reason I ask is someone welded in a brake pedal assembly out of maybe a Mustang. Looks realy bad. Plus where the steering column goes through the floor it's been cut up.

The 302 was moved to far back and they cut into the lower part of the firewall...My pics to come shortly...

Thanks guys

This probably isn't much help, and I no longer have the original setup in my truck so this is all I got. Hope it helps?

There are a series of small plates that fit all together with holes prearranged when assembled. Do you have those? This would be the method to use if you want to retain a stock factory configuration. And welcome to the site.

Yours looks to be ok. It may be cut slightly at the top, but should be covered up by the filler pieces that go over the hole and around the steering column.

Picture kind of crappy, but you can see the cut out.

You can see the cover that goes over the area in the photo below. I should have an extra set if you're in need. PM or email me.

It's a cover that looks like this.

If the 302 is so far back they had to cut the firewall I think I would look at moving the engine forward where it belongs and stop a ton of issues before you get any further along. At this stage it's a lot easier to fix it than to continue to cobble it up into a bigger mess. Minor things like changing the plugs can be a mess with no column clearance.
Just my opinion and opinions will vary.

I have a 52 and set the 302 about 3/4" clearance on the left rocker cover from the firewall and as low as possible for the oil pan to clear a IFS crossmember. Will try to send a photo tomorrow. Started out with a front sump oil pan but changed to a rear sump pan to make things work easier.

The whole truck will be torn down. Plus the frame will have an IFS with the motor will be addressed. I just want to take it slow and makre sure I know what something is supposed to look like..

51panel. Yes I do have those covers I pulled them off to get an idea of what else was cut.

Jeff thanks, that puts things in perspective, now I just need to re look at the holes.

I'm not chasing after a complete stock look but I dont want to run somethings thats cobbled together..And trust me there is a bunch of it..haha

Does the picture Jeff posted mean the master cylinder sat under the floor board?

Here is the plates..So the cut out's are for Clutch and Brake...They must have ditched the stock brake in favor of a firewall mounted brake booster plus the motor was sat so far back they just ditched the stock setup entirely...

The stock location of the master cylinder was on the left side of the transmission crossmember below the driver's floorboard. You can see the small round hole in the floor board ahead of where the seat would go. If you sit in the seat and rest your feet at 90* to the floor, you'd hit the hole in the floor for the master cylinder. If you have tiny hands, you'd be able to stick one hand through the hole in the floor and unscrew the m/c cap in order to refill with brake fluid. However, easiest way to get the cap off is to use a square socket with an extension.

I have a 351W in mine and my left valve cover is also about 3/4" from the firewall. They must have really set that 302 way back! I bet you have plenty of clearance for a fanblade! Many guys have used a 302 with no firewall clearance issues. In fact, I wish I had a 302 instead of a 351W. It's just a little wider, but when it comes to steering linkage, a little wider can feel like a football field! I assume you will use an aftermarket Mustang II setup? If so, that will put your engine in the sweet spot. And welcome to the disease! I mean Forum! keep us posted!

You got it Jeff...

There is a decent amount of clearance between the radiator and the fan blade however the motor sits so low the blades barely miss the lower crossmember thats behind the raditator..haha

I'm assuming this was done with zero money involved. Probably done years and years ago from somene that had the truck and found an old 80's Mustang and tried to swamp everything over with out making it fit correctly. Nice try but very shady

I've got a general idea of what it takes to make the brake setup work correctly or I should say "fit". Now I just need to decide if I want to run an under the floor board setup or off the firewall...

I will be posting more pictures of the "Jalopyiness" this truck has done to it...haha Let's call it..."Custom"
