Trade-in
Being recently retired I'm looking in to trading my '05 for an '11 F350 6.7 as my wife and I plan on doing a lot of traveling next year pull our fifth-wheel.
My current truck has just under 37000 miles on it and is in excellent condition and very well maintained.
KBB has the trade-in value at $18875 for my area.
NADA has it at $18540 with a retail of $21875.
The dealer is offering $15200 and is staying firm and is telling me that it would be worth more if it were a V8. Both KBB and NADA actually increase the value of the truck by $500 with the V10.
What do you guys think?

Personally I think anytime any retail outlet uses anything like a KBB to quote prices is simply playing that well known game of "buy low, sell high......"! Economic times these days have some distressed people shedding debt often times selling items far below what the real market would bring simply to get that quick cash. Dealers tend to have great lines of credit so their "buy low.." offers can be easily funded because they know at some point the ".......sell high(er)" will work out.
I'm looking for a V10 equpped E350 extended body and will probably have to travel 1200>1500 miles to find one as I want------listing and selling it yourself to the same customer the dealer would is your best bet financially. Your description says its in tip top shape and to the right buyer its pure gold. Craig's List, eBay Free Classified Ads are great places to do your own market research. If time is on your side you'll benefit greatly I'm sure!

Thanks so much for the input guys. I'm in no hurry to sell the truck and if I can't get what I want then that's a show stopper. The truck doesn't have a dent or scratch on it and they won't budge off the offer of $3k below KBB and NADA. The only wear on the truck is on the drivers floor mat where my heal has been resting for the last 6 years.

Dealers are not dumb but you could try to play the numbers game. Ask for more off of the new truck to get closer to the price you need. Again they are not dumb and know this. As my father always told me, "make them an offer they CAN refuse". If you can wait, which is seems like you can, give them your offer and tell them to call you when they want to deal. Catch them in a slow month or whatever and that phone might ring. Just depends how much you "want" that new truck!!
When I traded in my 06 5.4 it was a good situation because it needed tires, exhaust, hubs, rear bumper was rotten, also rusting a touch on the bottoms of both doors, and was having other issues. They gave me something like 12,500 or 13,000 (KBB PP Retail was ($18k or so) but with all the upgrades needed to sell myself it made sense to not do that and take the trade.
On the side of selling a V10, the truck I picked up (08 I own now) started at 33,999. Seven months later it was $26,999. Now the short bed dually made it a harder sell I guess but I still paid WAY below the last price for an 08, 25k mi, great condition, CC, DRW, V10. But again the short bed dually may have had something to do with that. But there were other V10's that had been sitting there the same time frame. Depends on the market and the emotions of buyers.

Check around and see if you can find a dealer that has sold a lot of V10's over the years. The dealer I bought mine from always had new ones on the lot and usually used ones. They were not afraid of them at all. The used ones on their lot were priced higher than others because they knew what they were and that they could move them. I would assume that they would give more on trade also.

Thats what dealers do. Car dealers want to buy a truck at auction for $8k and sell it for $15k. If they are offering you $15k they will probably sit it on the lot marked around $20k-$21k. Sounds like your truck is in like new condition. I've never seen a 5.4l truck sell for more than the exact truck with the V10. You junk that ain't worth nuthing will magically be the greatest thing in the world when they are describing it to a potential buyer. Typical dealer BS. When I bought my 04' I kept my old truck so I didn't have to deal with the trade in BS.
