I have decided to buy a 02-04 250 crew cab 4x4 v10. My only problem is the huge price range. I have been searching everywhere and cant figure out why there is such a range. I have found many trucks exactly what I am looking for, for about $20,000 but also just as many at $30,000 and many in between. Similar miles, options, etc... I would think with this newer truck the prices would be pretty similar, but I am wrong. Can anyone tell me why this is happening or why I would not want to buy closer to $20,000. Thanks
I don't know, I bought my 02 last year and paid about 20K. I was a little concerned about it at the time but this beast has never given me a bit of trouble and I have put about 20K miles on it since then. Steven
Many folks ask 'what they owe' on the truck - which can be far more than it's worth. Or, they put on a bedliner and toolbox and brushguard, and expect to get full retail on these parts when they resell. To me, those parts add little, unless they are just what I was going to buy anyway.
I bought a '99 Crew/4x/V10/4.30 gears/Lariat last July for $12K - but many other trucks were far more expensive. Diesels command a huge premium in Colorado, but less so in other parts of the country.
Buy a copy of Truck Trader and surf some major newspaper classifieds in your area (Chicago or Milwaukee) to get an idea of the 'street price' of a truck like you want. I paid close to wholesale for an immaculate private sale truck, though gas prices will always make a V10 a tough sell to some folks. I would have enjoyed a diesel, but not at $18-20K for the same truck as this 12K one. I even got 12.9 mpg yesterday driving in a blizzard.
my '05, see signature, had 3000 miles on it, one owner, when i bought it used for $29,500(thats not including trade or downpayment). becareful with buying the V10 and turn the tables on the dealers. im serious when i say this, but if you buy the V10 you like from a dealer, no matter which one it is, you are automatically losing $3-4,000 if you ever wanted to trade it in. So turn the tables on these guys and tell them what they tell everybody: "they should give u better deal because of gas prices", "lower your price cause you know everybody wants a diesel instead", so on so on. hope this helps.
I bought an 03 crew v -10 4x4 xlt, 66k miles great shape from a private seller here in KY for $15,000. it also has a rhino liner, and tires have less than 10k on them. The guy was having some financial issues but still.
I know where another 03 v-10 xlt ext cab 4x4 is that can be had for 14,500. however its body has a couple of dings and dents on it and the tailgate has a big scratch. it runs good but has been worked, pm me and I will give you the guys info if you want.
Once I test drove a few f 250s and decided to go with the v-10 I was really suprised at the huge price varations in the used market around here. I shopped around a lot, for like 4 months. I wanted a 01-03 cause thats what I could afford, and some dealers where asking high 20s. one day I went shopping and in two towns about 25 miles apart, one dealer wanted 16,995 and another one wanted 22,995 for almost the exact same 2002 v-10 truck with similar miles. Some dealers price them high, " cause a clean used one are so hard to find" and "you still saving thousands over new," at least thats what one stupid Ford salesman tried to tell me. If you shop around long enough you can find a lot of good deals on a used v-10 they are out there. With the high gas prices some private sellers are having trouble moving them. Dont believe the Ford dealers.
I looked at a 2004 Lariat CC 4x4 V10 with 44k miles at a nearby Nissan dealership. I indicated to the salesman that I wouild be willling to pay in the low 20's. He was suppose to check with his manager and call me back the next day, but he never did. I guess they wanted a lot more. I ended up buying a new 2006 Lariat CC 4x4 diesel a week later.
