Transmission swap question

How easy is it to swap a E4OD into a 1995 F250, 351, 4x4 with a column shifted C6? No overdrive is killing me in gas mileage.

Swapping the trans in isn't THAT hard. Making the electronics work so that the trans will shift will be difficult.

IDK, lol following up from teh trans tech I'm prolly way out in left field. But couldn't you bolt the trans up and replace your ECU with one for a 351w with an E4OD 4x4, like from a bronco or F150. I dodnt see why it wouldnt work, but sometimes im the dim bulb on the christmas tree....

Yeah, it's definitely a C6. It might of gotten swapped in by a previous owner, I've only had the truck for less than a week. The gear selector only has P R N D 2 1 on it, I don't know how different the OD models are.

Do you have a button at teh end of the shifter or on the dash for OD cancel/off?

Kemical: I think the C6 was offered in the F250-350 through 97

The C6 was produced up till 1997.

I've seen alot of company trucks have them.

Infact, our city trucks here, that's what they all are. Very very basic with C6's. Newest i've seen in person with one is a 1995 F350 crew cab with a 460.

I'm a fan of the C6, I had one backing up a 390 in my 69 Torino, but this truck really needs a OD. 3,000 rpms at 60-65 is killling the wallet.

Add the wiring harness to this and it will work.

The C6 went out of production at the end of the 1996 model year.

isn't there an aftermarket o/d unit you can buy to bolt onto your tranny? You would have to shorten the driveshaft, but It still might be cheaper then buying an e40d tranny, computer, and related wiring. just a thought.

Either Gear Vendors or US Gear. One of them has gone out of business, I forget which one.

Why an E4OD? The AOD would be alot easier to setup and it's cheaper if you need to rebuild it.

I like cheap and easy. Any modifications involved in swapping in a AOD?

Yeah an AOD was gonna be my suggestion, you'll need one from a 4x4 truck and the later the model you can find the better.. the early versions were weak. Besides the trans you will need a 28oz AOD flexplate(DO NOT use the C6 flexplate) and the TV cable and TB bracket. I suspect you will also need the driveshafts from an AOD truck and possibly the crossmember but I'm not sure on that.
