Transmission Swap
The non-computer AOD, but you're going to have to get a beefed up job to have any prayer of making it last.
The Big-as-a-house E4OD, which will require a compatible ECU for your truck or a stand-alone controller. The E4OD was an option in your truck methinks, so finding a donor would be the way to go.
Oh, there is a 3rd way, a GM 700R, but no reason to do that as the E4OD will handle the job.
These sites have info on all these trans, Patco has adaptors should you choose a dark side box:
TCI - Ford AOD, AODE and 4R70W
AOD Performance Products - Baumann Electronic Controls
AOD Transmission from PATC, AOD Transmissions
Another way here, if your C6 is working properly, is the OD from Gear Vendors. Probably a bit more than a trans swap, but beware, if you get a $200 trans from a yard, you stand a pretty good chance of doing this job again. So the price on the GV is stiff, a good rebuilt E4OD won't be pocket change either, along with other changes.
Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.
And remember, this gives you 6 gears vs. 4....
Good luck.
