High idle

Hi guys,

The old V-10 has been great for me, but recently has developed a high idle after start-up. 66K miles but 9 years old.

The idle is about 2100 rpm. I have to really push the brake hard to keep her stopped at an intersection.

After a few revs of the engine, it does go down, but what is causing this?

It would just be a guess, but it sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve might be dirty or hanging up.

Pull it off and run some carb cleaner through it and see if that takes care of the problem.

The valve is at the back of the throttle body, between it and the firewall.

You may want to clean your throttle body as well. It could be gummed up and the spring may have a hard time returning the butterfly back to the closed position.
