Hey guys I was wondering how many of you were running a customized tune on your programmer for your truck (gasser or diesel...we have one of each)? If not what tune are you running. I am trying to decide what to due with my truck.

Not all custom tunes are created the same for all engines. While I think all computer controlled vehicles do better with custom tunes, I wouldn't use the same companies (not only in terms of software but in actual hardware as well) for all applications(engines). Some do better with certain engines then others (for whatever reason).

I think it would be far better to list what vehicles you plan on tuning.

I use Matt's (Spartan Diesel) Street Comp tune and a custom tow tune as well. Both tunes are for a moderately modified truck though(turbo, injectors etc). I saw on your profile you had a 6.0, so I'm pretty sure about you wanting to tune that one, if I'm right that's one truck down.

Also have to ask what is your application for the truck, both now and in the future? Why are you getting tunes?

Also running a 5-star custom from mike. 89 Perfomance and 89 Tow (for 4x4ing) Like tex25025 said it comes down to how your truck is configured and what mods you have or plan on doing in the future. I've know that I hear nothing but bad things about canned tunes but that is because not every tuck is built equally. Changes in design from one year to the next and any changes, even just a K&N filter, change it from "Stock"

 

2006 5.4L F150 FX4

Gryphon CS with 87 performance from Power Hungry Performance. I went with them because I wanted the screen so I could see all the info - temps, MPG, speed, etc. You can do that with the SCT's, but it's like $900 for a screen compared to the $500 I payed.

 

Troyer tuned my supercharged beast with the SCT3.
