Trying to get a truck started that I'm buying but don't have the key. Can we break the switch and I can replace later or will that damage the colum?

 

You can drill out the ignition, starting small and working your way up until you can jam a flat head screwdriver in it to turn it. I have had to do this to change an ignition before and it only took about 10 minutes, but be careful not to drill too deep.

You can do that, or what I would personally do is pull the ignition wires and splice the ignition on and get under and start it with a screwdriver. If you dont want to change out the ignition assembly then just hook up the ignition wire to a toggle and the starter to a push button.

Ive done it twice before on two different rigs. Works great, keys are overrated . ALthough I did it to ORVs not tabbed vehicles.
