Does your van have a computer? Maybe you could have it scanned for an error codes. Other than that I have no idea dude. Sounds like gremlins to me.

I had an issue a while back that might help. I could start my truck and it would run fine but wouldn't get past about 20 mph. Mechanic couldn't figure it out after buying a $5000 piece of equipment. Once I got it home and messed around with it, I found that the in-tank fuel pump was bad. In the fuel pump there is a dime-sized diaphragm that had a crack in it and would leak. That was causing the problems I had. Unfortunately, in this situation, the only way to make sure that was the problem was to buy a fuel pump and install it.

The pip in the distributor or the ignition module will cause this problem.
Next time it does it see what u don't have fuel pressure( with a fuel pressure gauge) or spark.

fordfuelinjection.com is suspended has a link that provides you instructions for retrieving codes for free. Unfortunately, it appears the site it temporarily down.

As other members stated, fuel or electrical problems could be the culprit. Try to retrieve codes as someone may know the method, since I cannot remember how. I have a Equus code reader that tells me without having to count flashes and could lead to wrong codes.

the TFI module thats mounted on the distributor has a tendancy to fail when it gets warm and will behave just as you described.

Imabaka and Kemicalburns mentioned a good point. If the TFI is mounted on the distributor, this may be the culprit. The TFI was mounted later to the driver side fender under the hood to keep it away from the stress and heat of the engine.
