Big motor, small axle, need advice

First of all Id like to say hello, my name is broke33 (you know, 33 years old an BROKE) from Michigan and Im really impressed with all the information available on this forum. Its great to have something like this available for your back yard grease monkeys
:-)

I posted this issue in another part of the forum and was told the axle geru's lie in this forum.

I have a dilema: Ive got a 1991 F150 with the stock dana 44 TTB axle. I have a 460 engine modified to 545CI and Im pushing 700+HP and over 750ftlbs of torque. I will be running 36.5 inch tires. I am concerned that the front axle will not hold up. I have a sterling full floater with a locker in the rear and I have a 1984 F250 front axle for converting the front to an 8 lug, but Im not sure if its worth the effort. I will be doing alot of trail and mud riding in this vehicle. Sorry for the rambling but my question is this:

If I run the CTM ujpoints and warn outer stub shafts on this axle, will it be strong enough to handle this abuse or do I need a dana 60 ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The 250 axle is a Dana 50IFS, which I've heard uses D60 parts, but I'm no axle guru. I've read posts by people who run big engines, big tires, and D44IFS with no problems.

Thanks for the feedback. The F250 has two different axles: The dana 50IFS for the heavy duty and the dana 44IFS for the light duty. I have the dana 44 for the light duty F250. Im hoping with all the stuff Ive bought for this axle already that I can use it safely. Just curious if anyone out there has tried the large tires with the dana 44IFS?

If your runnin that much horspower I think you should go for a custom built dana 60 or build it up yourself. Save your money by not building the IFS and go for the Dana 60.

I second that, I've heard that dana 44's can't handle tire much bigger then 35's with stock power, and your well over stock power, there is a second option I'll test the engine i'll give it back when it blown i swear

check your local junkyard, I think the heavy duty 250's and 350's had dana 60, but just remember the front and rear gears must match

Also watch for complete trucks that are going for cheap usually the ones with blown or no motors. Like 1991fseries said make sure the gears are the same unless you are changing the gears then it won't matter.
You won't have to change gears though if your running that much horsepower.
Good Luck axel hunting
