Question Help with 1998 2.5L Ranger Rear Disc Brake Conversion

Hey guys, I apologize if I this posting seems redundant in any way, unfortunately I am not very computer savvy, or a great mechanic. But I do need to change my 1998, 4 cylinder, manual, Ranger XL (the smallest and cheapest one) to disc brakes for the rear. I have tried to do some research, and have noticed that apparently some 1994 to 2004 Mustang rear brakes fit the Rangers, but it depends on the spline count. What can you guys tell me about my issue. How can I find out the spline count on my truck? I really do not want to swap the entire rear axle assembly, I just need to convert the brakes. Any suggestions, or links to already published information will really be appreciated.

Many thanks for the help,
Infante

Myself think the rear disc's are way over rated. I prefer just the 10" with good quality shoes. You would have the 28 spline axle, only the FX4's would have the 31 spline. Anyway, here is one of the best write-ups on the conversion you want.

I have an Aerostar that was converted to rear discs and larger front discs. The stoping power is amazing. The brakes work great without being overly touchy. Where you notice the difference the most is on long downhill grades. The discs stay cooler than drums, so you get consistent stopping power without overheating the brakes.
