clicking when turning steering wheel:/

Hi there guys. i had a strange one happen today i deliver pizza in my truck she makes me my living my baby is a 79 2Wd f150 xlt ranger. So i was on a delivery and jumped back in after the package was delivered and hit the key and the starter just turned and turned so nautrally i think F my starters shot so i crawl under and give it a little love with mister hammer and when that did nothing i attempted to push her out of the nice ladies driveway before i got any deeper and well mid push and turn my steering wheel turned without tge wheels moving if ya catch my drift. so ny issue being now is say if i jump in the truck and turn my wheel to say manually move the wheels without the motor on the steering.wheel will turn one Click at at time like its slipping teeth the rag knuckle deal is good and tight so I'm wondering did i brean something in the column any help would be mucho appreciated as this is my lively hood atthis point. oh and the starter issue was quickly fixed somehow both bolts were loosened and hanging in place. vibration? Sabotage? I do not know.
