2011 Superduty- removed airdam/valance

Well I snapped part of the big airdam off driving out of a sand wash or something, I unbolted it and tossed the remains in the recycling bin.

I didn't see a wiring harness like I think I saw in some other posts I found on the net, but there are two big scoops or brackets hanging down from the frame rails. Are they really to keep the truck from mounting a Hyundai or Honda like a steer if I rear-end it? It's the only thing I can think they could be of used for.

It looks kinda funny with the airdam gone- I think I'll look around for a shorter replacement.

BTW- I love this truck. Almost 3000 miles on it since special ordering it for a weekend fun truck/go-get-stuff/desert rat vehicle in April.

I have heard that the 2WD air dam is shorter. You may want to look into that and see if that will work for you.

There are a few posts on this topic around. There is a shorter version, however, most say you will drop mileage slightly without it.

A 2011 SuperDuty for a desert rat?

Can I change my user name to "Jealous of Chris-in-LA"?

Thanks for the responses-
Went to the dealer and ordered the valance/airdam for the 2WD Superduty and got it in a couple of days. It bolted right on (even included the cage nuts) and it's about 2 inches shorter. About $100. Maybe it will last a little longer!

I'd say, if you find yourself driving in and out of sand washes where there's a little bit of a dropoff or overhang, and if there's a shorter version of the valance for your 2002, it would be worth getting. It still might get bashed off if you're really having fun I guess!

Those big drop-down brackets on the frame rails stick out a little now on mine with the shorter valance- I'm still wondering what those are?

The 2002 one is already very small. But I took it off and saw a noticible drop in mpg..

Im curious about those brackets as well. I had to slightly clearance them to install my westin hdx but saw no purpose for them other than what you heard they were for.
