TPMS reset for 2004 year rims on 2006
I have a 2006 Explorer with 18" wheels and put the 17"s off my old 2004 Explorer and about 2 days later the TPMS light came on. Every time I start the car the sensor fault message and blinking tire light comes on and I hit the Reset button and it will disappear. Can someone tell me if the TPMS reset procedure I saw in this forum will solve my problem? Are the sensors in the 2004 rims in the stem or the rim, the 2006 rims?

Check your valve stems. If they are metal with a nut in the bottom holding them in, they are in the stems.
Is this the procedure you saw? It's what I use when I change to/from winter tires.

I use a horseshoe magnet, but any one will do.

yes, your post was where I read about the magnets, reset, etc. I just looked and the tires on the 2006 are rubber stem and the tires off the 2004 are metal. Do you know if I use the magnet routine on the 2004's they will work with the computer on the 2006? I also gather the magnet is used with the metal stems and is not used with the rubber stems, is this correct or am I missing something again?
Thank you for responding to my post.

I can't say for sure whether the magnet would work on the 2006 rims.
The magnet is the way to reset the sensors that are located in metal valve stems.
But I don't know if the magnet would work on the metal stem sensors on the 2004 rims. It may or may not be a different system (that sounds dumb).
All I can say is try it and see. Then post back.
The 2006 rims would have the sensor on a metal band wrapped around the center barrel of the wheel. I don't know how you could make that sensor wake up with a magnet.
