Fan Clutch Motorcraft vs aftermarket
#17
Think My fan clutch is bad????
I have an 06 F250 4wd with the 6.0L PSD, Today in Nevada was about 102. The truck idled for about 40 mins with the A/C on cause my son fell asleep while the Wife was grocery shopping. The temp gauge stayed in the middle of the normal range. On the way home we were going up a long steep grade and the truck got hot. The check engine temp light came on so I turned off the AC and by the time I was headed down hill the temp was back into the normal range. But I didnt hear the fan come on Like a jet airplane like normal. When I got home I turned off the engine while it was hot and the fan spins pretty easily. I waited till it cooled off and it spins the same ease. At ten tonight I started the truck let it idle for a few mins until the temp gauge was1/4 into the normal range and turned on the A/C and the fan didnt turn on any harder than before.
I thought when you yurned the A/C on the fan clutch would apply more pressure and the fan should make more noise. My code reader doesnt have the updated software to read codes on newer OBDII vehicles.
The code scanner is an Actron CP9145 Super Auto scanner.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

There are so many variables to the operation of the fan clutch it's hard to say David. One thing I would advise you to do is get something to monitor your engine parameters and to NOT rely on the dash gauges. They are nothing but idiot lights with needles that basically read cold/normal/hot. By the time they go red it's too late. A Scan Gauge II will read everything but fuel pressure, lubricating oil pressure, and exhaust gas temperature and it plugs into the OBDII port. You can get it at cleanmpg.com for about $135. It has 8 preprogrammed parameters and 24 "X" gauges that you program to read what you want to see.
