4R100 won't shift out of 2nd...
2002 PSD 4x4 with 230,XXX miles. Mods: DPTuner, 6637, 4" exhaust, lift, 35s.
Driving back from a camping trip with my 5th wheel in tow I hit a glitch. We were pulling out onto the highway after we had stopped to eat. Some dude cut in front of me on the on ramp so I let out and got back in the throttle a couple times. It felt weird when I did that. Beyond what I did, it felt like it slipped and grabbed. At that point I start accelerating again (not hammering it, just accelarating onto the highway). I have now climbed past 2500 rpm...3000 rpm...3100 rpm. No shift. I let out and the rpms drop to near idle. Hit the accelerator again and they sweep up to 3000 rpm. At this point I'm on the highway looking for an exit. I'm at about 2800 rpm at 50 mph. I have no blinking OD light. I pull over...no fluid dripping, fluid is not hot, nothing obvious, nothing hanging under the truck. I check the shifter to make sure I am actually in D and not 2. That is fine. I limped the truck home between 45 and 50 mph. When I got to my 2nd stop light it wouldn't shift out of first. 35 mph and the engine was screaming. I let out and got back in it twice and it finally shifted to second where it stayed again.
Here are the codes I have. Nothing screams transmission, but the 1876 has me wondering. I was hoping to see a VSS code or something. Any and all help is appreciated.
P1876 - Transfer Case 2-Wheel Drive Solenoid Circuit Failure
B1352 - Ignition Key-In Circuit Failure
B1203 - Fuel Sender Circuit Short to Battery
P1211 - Injector Control Pressure Higher/Lower Than Desired (engine running)
P0476 - Exhaust Pressure Control Valve Range/Performance
I admit, I am fairly new to AE. If I have missed some sort of test, please point me in the right direction. Thanks again for your help.

You pretty much described how my trans failed. a slight slip and a few miles later it wouldn't shift. Sounds like you need a new trans.
I'm no expert on transmissions (but I sure know how to kill one )
IIRC, once you lose a gear your PCM will not let it shift.
When mine let go, I had no OD light blink, fluid was red and smelled fine also.
BTW, It seems like quite a few have failed between 230 and 240k (just an observation)

Prob need it before that though?

Wow! I really appreciate the offer. If timing was a little different I would take you up on it. We've got a big camping trip planned for July and I'm gonna need more than 2 gears before this one.

Just contact Suncoast and get their rebuild kit for $495, add a Transgo Tugger shift kit and also a new torque converter. Do it fast before your tranny really craters and you'll always have crud in the lines. I wouls also recommend an external tranny filter from Summit Racing @ $40, it's a real deal.

Yeah I figured the timing was off, but I would have been more than happy to deliver it for you. Good luck getting her fixed.

I just got off the phone with Brian at BTS. I have got to say, he is a stand up guy. I was on the phone with him for half an hour as he walked me through some diagnosis. I am going to pull the pan and check the 2-3 shift valve. It may be sticking due to wear. I'll take a look at it and go from there.
On a side note. I am shocked and thankful that Brian was willing to take time to walk me through this. I know what half an hour of shop time costs. If this is his customer service on a non-paying customer...wow! Top notch. I thanked him several times for taking his time with me. It is very refreshing to deal with someone like Brian.

Hope you have an easy fix.

Well I fixed it this morning. Stuck 2-3 shift valve, just like Brian suggested. My only concern is that the fluid (had 20-25k on it) was black. There was quite a bit of friction material in the pan as well as some metal shavings. Looks like I'm still going to be replacing it soon.
