is it in the suspension?

or the engine?

if its the engine missing under load,
have you checked your spark plugs, wires, dist cap, timing?
the plugs can be a great indicator of one cylinder not firing right

first,

check to make sure your vaccume advance is hooked up to the distributer

then I'd check each of the spark plugs (right after driving and recreating the miss) NGK Spark Plugs USA

I would not be surprised if you have one that is damp (unburnt fuel)

you could be running rich, (Carb is dumping too much fuel)
this could be causing your engine to load up and miss.

I'm sure more people will chime in soon (kinda slow on Saturday mornings)

good luck

What He Said.....

I agree with Krautburner, check those items he listed. I have the same issue with my 79 F-350, but it idles fine, no shaking. Im putting in a new vacuum advance canister. Will post up with results. Not trying to hijack......

i checked all the plugs and they all look dry fouled and i havent replaced them for a couple months, it seems like the choke might be stuck a little open could that be why its dry fouling

also every once in a while it shoots a little white puff of smoke out the exhaust could it be a exhaust valve not seating correctly? and my choke wont go all the way in my dad said if the choke is stuck open that could cause the dry fouled spark plugs and the heavy shake when accelerating but i want a second opinion, because i wont be able to try until tomorrow
