Transmission leaking bad

Hey guys, my tranny started leaking pretty bad last night, here's what happened. I tried pulling out a tree and broke off two different straps before I called it good, I drove home about 25 minutes and noticed later that day a big puddle of ATF under my truck. It's coming out on the passenger side around the tranny pan gasket, I can't really see above it. The oil cooler lines look dry so I think that they are ok. I did some research and found out that when you get these trannys hot a seal on the converter will start to leak, but eventually seal back up.

So after finding that out I decided to look at it later, I let the truck sit over night and put about half a qt. in it today and drove it, well it still leaks and I think it is a little worse now. The truck drives and shifts fine still, so I think my tranny is still good.

Anyone ever had something like this happen? Or have any ideas on what to look for? It has 160,000 on it and never had the pan dropped for a gasket.

The truck is a 94 F150, 5.0, E4OD, 4x4.

Thanks guys.

Well, if it was the common front seal leak the fluid would be coming out from the bellhousing.
I think I would look more closely at the cooler lines.

The lines are good, I just double checked. I wiped everything down and can see the oil come back on the tranny pan bolts on the rear of the pan, I think it needs a new gasket. I just think it's weird it's leaking so much, I see a drop every 1-2 seconds. I've never seen a gasket leak so bad, has anyone else?

I changed my pan gasket and filter today, and it still leaks. Come to find out it looks like it is coming from in between the tranny and the extension housing. How does this happen? I saw some stuff when I googled it and saw pictures of people cracking theirs. I can't see any cracks in mine, but I'm worried that I just can't see it. Why else would this thing start to leak this bad? Have any of you guys seen this? Or is there a seal inside that can leak?

Thanks.

This might help. I don't have part numbers or descriptions, though. My guess would be part 16 in this diagram. I'll take a look at my transmission tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

I took it into the shop today, it was part 16. Some how a chunk of the gasket came out and was casing the drip. We just used some RTV, no more leaks now though.

Thanks for the help man.

I don't know what it's called exactly. But there is a housing in between the tranny and transfer case. The gasket in between the tranny and housing itself was leaking. When my mechanic took it apart there was about a inch long piece that was missing.
