'94 4.0 intake manifold advice
My wifes' 4.0 blew a gasket (I thought a head gasket but turned out to be the intake pass rear) and I bought a 92 for the motor and now... to use that motor I would have to change too much stuff. I stopped at the cps as I am unsure if the 92 mill would accept that anyway - I had allready made my mind up to swap wiring harnesses to make things compatible and ran into the plug for the cps... hmmm..
Why not just do the intake man gasket? - It had gotten pretty hot and with the 92 cheap I talked myself into doing a swap. ( I put a 4.0 in my old B2 years ago and it was a piece of cake - that's what overconfidence will get me) It also had a shipload of carbon in the intake runners and I again talked myself into the "easy" route - see also "shooting self in foot". The 92 doesn't have the same pcv system or egr.
So.... now I am telling myself to just clean the original motors' intake runners, buy the dang gasket set and hope for the best (cracked head? from overheat and/or whoknows whatelse?)
My ?'s are - what else should I be changing / cleaning this far into the deal? Injectors? Only injector o-rings? Anything else?
I am allready pulled and on the floor of the garage as I had planned to swap. The motor ran allright when we were trying to stop-leak the original leak.
'94 4.0 Exploder sport 160k Girl driven - mostly shorts to work - back (thats miles not clothing...). No oil burning still. 20mpg from 23-24 11 yrs ago. I would junk it but it has newer balljoints, brakes are great, the ac still works cheaply, interior is like a 2k new vehicle, great tires, and most importantly - the ol' lady likes it - she can drink beer in the woods and not worry about a) getting back home b) scratching her car.
Thank God for FTE!!!

If you've installed engines before, changing the intake manifold gaskets should be easy for you. I did them on 2 Aerostars, and each one took a few hours. It should be easier on an Explorer.
Since you will have the intake off, I would also just go ahead and change the valve cover gaskets as well.
