There's your problem, they go sideways Seriously though, that's not normal. Contact the company and get a replacement set. This is one of the best mods for the X and you shouldn't be this unhappy with it.

The handle is there for short people to reach, or to close the hatch from inside. Or for those who really lift their truck!

I wonder if you got the correct set for Excursions.

But you can't open it from inside?? That would be a great mod!

Supposed to be, they came from LSD's EBay store (eBay item number:231172316523 +1.5" lift for Excursion) but I'll try soaking the hinges with lube first.

They aren't horrible, they just don't work as well as the ones that were on it when I got it... no idea if they were original or not though.

(Upper picture is the stock lifts, lower picture is the new 4x2 lifts.)

There were before and after pictures from a lot of members with stock lifts before and the extended TALL lifts talked about in the beginning of the thread after. Here are before and after shots of the stock vs the 4x2 lifts. I was worried that the extended tall ones would be just a little too big for my little lady, shes 5'6''. (Although the extended lifts do look awesome.) My Ex has stock tires and no lift just for reference. On my Ex, I measured with a tape measure and the stock lifts lifted the liftgate so that it was 72 inches high. Measured to the bottom of the gate right where the inside handle is located. With the 4x2 installed, I got 76 inches of height under the gate. Also a plus is that I have full extension, with little force from myself after unlatching the gate. With the stock, it was only raising it up to about 66 inches of clearance. The old lifts had lost their mojo to say the least. So there you go, 72 inches up to 76. Who knew 4 inches would make all the difference? (Yup, I set that one up.)

Mine opens (slowly) to 76" ground-to-inside-handle, more or less on it's own after I get it halfway up... and then to 81" if I lift it the rest of the way.

After 15 years and 190k miles, it is time to replace my original struts. This thread started almost 4 years ago. I am curious how the struts that were replaced have held up? Have any failed. If so, how long did they last.

I did this mod about a year ago - very happy. I have noticed though that when cold (20s and colder) the lift supports weaken and barely hold the gate up. Anyone else have the same experience? If not, mine might be defective and need replacing.

Looking at replacing mine. Have a 4x4 but really need it higher. I am 6'4" and the ones I have now suck. I went to the site and they list a few different ones. Which ones you guys suggest?
