It will make your engine installation a lot easier if you do.

I have 302 in a '55 with a TCI crossmember and could not clear the rack & pinion without moving to a rear sump pan. The sump and the rack want to occupy the same space.

I believe a mustang duel sump pan will work too. I'd go with the one that was the cheaper option lol either one, I don't know which is cheaper

I'm dropping in a 302 as well and have a No Limit IFS cross member (similar set up) everything I have researched and heard tells me I need a real sump oil pan.

sweet, thanks for the info, I just finished my IFS and plan on finishing my rear before I start drive train.

Hey, I will be running an AOD too, what type of shifter and steering column do you plan on running.

I am still wondering how I will have to do this. I seen a steering column that has the shifter on the column but do not know if that will work with the 302/AOD. Any pic from anyone who has this set up or an AOD set up?

Thanks

on the AOD from a Stang, they use a cable based shifter, cause the throw is so short with the shifter right on top of the tranny you get shift arm movement all the time with a rod (ask me how I know!)..

on the column shift, they use a rod.

the shift arm on the tranny is down for the cable and up for the rod.
drop the pan, remove the c clip or cotter pin depending on age, move the arm a little, rotate, reconnect,
re-install the pan..(and new gasket)..

the ididit and flaming river columns all have lower linkage arms for the AOD. just need a column for the 4 drive positions. (vs the three on my C6 non overdrive).

Sam,

Again you are dropping knowledge for me. You have a lot of good info, Mechanic by trade or just been doing this for a while?

I just looked on-line and seen that there is after market columns that support this. This is good news as I would prefer a steering column shifter than on the floor.

Maybe you will know this too, I read a few articles her on FTE about pedals. It sounds like I will have to get rid of all the stock pedals, sound right?

How did you do your pedals?

I am doing as much searching on the areas that I am unsure about, I want to have all information needed so that I attach everything in the most efficient order.

was a mechanic long time ago now (71-73) enjoyed it.. my 1st wife hated the smell of the oil & grease, so I got an inside job at IBM.
now work at another software company..

started back in wrenching when my son turned 16 and we bought an old chevy pickup that he wanted to customize, so we did it together, and I remembered how much I liked it.. thus started the 55 in July 2000.
It came with a seized 351w sitting in the bed, and we found a 302/aod/8.8 sold locally for the running gear (8.8 is under the green truck). just as I was about to use it, my daughter turned 16, and we found a 4 cyl mustang with a blown tranny cheap. the kids & my wife ganged up on me to make it a 5.0 using the 302/aod.. thus all the fun, knowledge (how to burn out an AOD in less than 10 miles!!). Also this led to the 460/c6 as the drivetrain for green since the 302 was stolen from my project parts pile!..

You can use the existing brake pedal if the master is under the floor (as it is on my red truck).. I used a firewall mount kit for the master in the green truck and got hanging pedal (see my gallery), and a flat lever type hanging gas pedal. nothing on the floor.

I had to replace all the forward kick panel flooring, so it was easy with no holes needed there.

Sounds like what started as a career turned into a great past time and opportunity to connect with the kids. My only boy is only 4 but I got him in the garage passing tools and bringing me beers

I never wrenched on cars professionally but did on planes for 5 years in the USAF, loved it but realized I can make more money on computers and do the wrenching on the side and while at work at home.

I looked through your galleries, a lot of great work, I noticed how you did hang the pedals on your green truck. I think I will be reusing my stock brake pedal as the package I purchased from No Limit came with the bracket, master and booster to go in the original location under the cab.

I was checking the Lokar site. Looks like I will be covered with the same set up you ran. Ididit, AOD and Lokar Kit, I can keep the brake pedal set up I have.

Now I just need to figure out the gas pedal assembly and how I will retrofit my e-brakes from the 97 explorer 8.8" rear I have in my backyard waiting.

Thanks again Sam, you are the man in book.

heres where I went for ebrake cables. John Niolon sent me there too
Control Cables, Inc.

and if I decide to replace the brakes with wilwood, they tell me to send the rear cables back and they will change the ends for free.

here is a hanging gas pedal, linkage, springs etc for the carb, and a matching brake pedal pad..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Stree...item483fd5a93e
sheesh prices have gone up in the last 5 yrs.. I paid $65 for similar.
