Drag Link

Hey guys, I also posted this in the 'Wanted' area of the classifieds section, but I'm looking for the drag link that runs from the steering box to the front diff on a Hi Boy. I'm looking for a drag link from a hi boy that DID NOT have powersteering (drag link without the ps valves). I'm actually looking for 2 of these drag links. Let me know if you have anything laying around.

Thanks,

I cant help you with the search but an FYI: the drag links with the control valve assembly(CVA) work just the same. You can use either for a manual setup. I understand in wanting to have the manual link. Especially since you can get a decent price or core charge for the CVA links. Just a heads up if you cant find one quickly.

I wouldn't buy a used one, most likely going to be worn anyway, and this is your steering linkage we're talking about here, the parts houses want roughly $140, found this one on ebay for $100, i've seen them as low as $60 on ebay, if you got the time to wait for a better price.

I never knew that they worked the same?? Everytime I drove a vehicle with powersteering, but had the powersteering unhooked, it always seemed like the steering was alot sloppier than a vehicle with regular manual steering. I assumed it was because that steering valve did not have pressure running through it.

Any idea what core charge is on this part??

Since highboys don't have integral power steering, they use the same steering box regardless if they have power-assist or manual steering, so as Sleepy stated, you can just use the control valve link as a manual link, serves the very same purpose, but if you're missing the drag link all together, a manual link will be much cheaper obviously.

There is a $300 core charge from National Parts Depot. montana_highboy has you covered on the explanation.

The power steering link will get you the same function, but they are sloppy steerin without their pressure and it's extremely noticable with the geared down box. If you planned on leaving it manual steering forever and want to drive it up and down the highway/gravel roads I'd buy the manual link or build your own for as much as those things cost.

RC raises a very good point, when the system isn't under pressure you will have about an 1/8" to 1/4" of play where the ball stud enters the control valve.
