Anyone know what Weight rating is on the tires on a max tow package. The truck is rated for 17,100 GCWR And 11,200 lbs towing I sure hope they don't ship out with Standard tires. I had the regular tires on my 99 f150 and anytime you put any serious weight in the vehicle or behind the tires would really squat. If this truck doesn't come with LT e rated tires or simular I will be greatly disappointed. What would be the point of the max tow if you couldn't use it.

 

According to the Ford F-150 build site, the Max Payload Package comes with E load range tires. So if the MPP is required for the Max towing package then you definitely get better tires.

 

Traditionally I always factor in buying new tires along with the cost of the truck/car just for reasons you mentioned and the fact that factory tires aren't the best choice of tire in the first place.

 

Depends on what size: If you go with 18's you can order 4 ply or LT. (which I think are 6 ply)

If you go 20's they are 4 plys.

Thing is if you look at the max load of the factory tires it will far exceed the max "legal" weight of the truck. But that said when I bought a TT to pull behind the F150, I upgraded to 10 ply for peace of mind and to help eliminate sway. (firmer sidewall)

For example: the Pirellei 20" Scorpion ATR has a tire max load rating of 2403lbs. So x 2 = 4,806lbs/axle. The highest GAWR you can get on a 2011 that I've seen to date is 4,050lbs.
2403 x 4 = 9612lbs which far excees the max gvwr you can get on a F150 with 20's @ 7,700lbs. Damn near 2000lb cushion...

In fact in a similar thread a couple years ago I looked up all f150 factory rubber and at least one set of the 4 plys had a higher load rating than the T 6 ply GY they offered.

For what its work at least you can order a LT tire on an F150. On a GM 1500 max tow its not possible.

But I see your point as I like a LT when really handling some serious weight.

 

The Maximum Payload Package is not required for the Max Tow Package. With the Max Tow Package you get the Goodyear Wrangler SR-As in 18" or the Pirelli Scorpions in 20". The Load Range "C" Goodyear Wrangler AT/S "LT" is only available with the Off Road Package which is not available with the Max Tow Package.

 

Nope, you can get the LT 18s without the off road pkg.

 

You can't get them with the Max Tow Package though. In fact, the order guide I'm looking at right now says that the LT275/65R18C tires require the Off Road Package on XLT and Lariat and that on the XLT they require the Chrome Package as well.

Looking further into the order guide, etc., Ford has really got some oddball ways of configuring trucks. The LT tires, Off Road Package, and Max Trailer Tow Package can be ordered together but only on the EB. Can't get the same configuration with the 6.2 though.....just weird.

I just ordered my max tow ego today. They said you do not get LT tires. The ford order site would not let us select the LT tires. I guess I will just change them out when I get the truck.

Very few diff between Us & Cdn trucks.

- TT mirrors not std in Canada with max tow. (optional)
- 4.10 not available in Canada with FX4/max tow & 20s.
- XTR is only pkg in Canada (US has own regional pkgs)
- And now no 18 "LT" rubber w/o off road pkg in US.

 

Good plan. I change my tires right away no matter what vehicle. They are just "shipping tires".

 

Here's an EB with max tow. It's got P285/65-18 Goodyear Wrangler SRA's. Just like most every 2011 F150 with 18's.

Goodyear lists these with a load rating of 2601, which is well exceeds any of the GVWR available on any 2011 F150. 8200 being the highest. While most of us don't like the idea of a P rated tire being capable of getting the job done. They are able to get the job done.
