Anyone else heard this(supposed...) rumor : V10 for 2012 SD pickups?!

Let's just say I hear things....and don't say NEVER! Case in point the 2005 F-150. Back when Ford redesigned these trucks in early '03 as 2004 models, in the new bodystyle they didn't offer the 4.2L V6 . In 2005 model year, they brought the 4.2L V6 back for the (then) new F-150s. Might history sort of repeat itself????? Get those emails, letter, and phonecalls started, folks! To Ford: EVERYBODY MAKES A BOO-BOO ONCE IN A WHILE. Give us a V10 pickup for 2012, we'll forgive. And change the colors, won't you?

So you heard a rumor? Or are you trying to start one?

I don't see it happening. Ford has to sell the 6.2 to get its investment back and the V10 will just steal from 6.2 sales. Plus, I think they'd have to do a bunch of work to get the engine configured with the new 6-speed tranny. I think the V10 is only offered with the 5-speed in the chassis trucks right now.

But I could be wrong...and if I am, it will be a good thing.

From your lips to Mullaly's ears. I'd like to believe this but I too am skeptical. Besides the investment in the 6.2, there were issues with effect of MPG of the V10 on CAFE and the ability to meet the more stringent EPA requirements. Given the political correctness and green bent of the current bunch in charge in Washington, and the state of the economy, I don't think the V10 has a very long future, especially in a high selling chassis. Again, I wish I was wrong.

They offer the F450-F750 with a V10 and 6-speed auto...

I don't believe the f450 and above trucks are included in the new CAFE standards, which is why the v10 is still available in those trucks.

The F-650 and F-750 with the 6.8l 3V/6R140 are not supposed to come out until the 2012 MY. Right now the F-650/F-750 only come with the 6.7l Cummins which has all the DEF/DPF crap on it. I'm interested to see if Ford adds their new 6.7l PSD to the two chassis along with the 6.8l. The current MY F-450 and F-550 still use the 5R110 with the 6.8l 3V.

I don't forsee the 6.8l coming back in an F-350 or lighter truck in the US and Canada.

Ahh yes it's MY 2012 that the 6-speed will be available forgot to add that to my post. Is only the F650 and F750 getting the 6-speed or will the F450 and F550 also get the 6-speed?

I havn't heard if the 450 and 550 are going to get the 6speed next MY. The current 2011 tow guide lists the 450 and 550 with the 6.8l as having the 5speed. It would make sense to me to eliminate the 5speed and just go with the 6speed.

All the parts are there, they just need to install them in an F350 - wait, maybe that's what I'll do :-{}

Nah...

I don't know the real reason for killing the V10 but CAFE standards were not the answer. The 6.2 does not get any (maybe marginally) any better mileage than the v10.

Ford screwed up big time IMO by going to the high revving peak numbers just for the sake of marketing. They must think we are stupid or something.

ME start a "rumor", HEAVENS N-O!!!!!!!!! Other things to consider from the past : In 1980, Ford dropped the 460, yet in 1983.....guess what engine was once again offered? Why the "dirty" 460. Guess the 400 wasn't clean enough for the tailpipe sniffers, or was it a LACK OF TORQUE.....2005 Ford 500, a replacement for the ever popular Taurus. That lasted long, didn't it? I say put the V10 back into pickups for 2012(my source shall not be revealed), and leave it at that. It cost $650(in 2010) over base 5.4L last year. They want to make the V10 $1,000 option, I'll pay it! STILL a bargain!!!! Everyone is happy. Let's see, 4 Broncos, a Flareside F-150, 2 F-250HD 4x4s, 4 F-350 4x4s, a Expedition 4x4, and most recently a Escape 4x4(and maybe a Fiesta for a family member next week...), I'd think you'd want to keep a REGULAR customer happy. No V10 pickup =

rumor! the 6.2 is the v10's replacement. we have to get used to that. between cafe, epa, and not being a popular motor in sales. the v10 has gone the way for the fe and mel big block motors.

And let's not forget the Lima- built 385 series big-blocks(370,429,429CJ,429SCJ, and 460). The V10 replaced the 460, and I was upset, but guess what I ended up getting later on down the road.....a V10. Guess nothing stays the same.
