How to identify a holley carburetor (NOOB)
Hi there,
I am looking at a used holley carb on craigslist. The seller says its rated to 750 cfm. The shape of the bowl resembles the HP and Dominator style of carb that Holley sells.
It came off of a modified chev (eeesh ick!) 350 truck engine. The guy said the carb overpowered the engine and caused problems for him.
I have been looking for the location of a product code that may be stamped on the side, bottom, top ect... of this carburetor and found 8493N stamped on thefuel bowl.
Does anyone have advice on where I can run this number, or find another number on this carb to get a good identification of model and cfm rating?
Thanks for your time.

Holleys are identified by "list" numbers located on the choke horn, usually. You can then go to the Holley website and figure out its cfm ratings and such. One thing you need to know is if it's a square bore or spread bore. Fords are mostly square bore (I think). Lots of Chevys are spread bore. In a spread bore, the main venturies are smaller than the secondaries. In square bores, they're the same size.

Sounds like a racing carb. Then, it would have to be stamped on the main body somewhere, either on top on the edge of the venturies or somewhere on the side of the main body. The bowls don't carry the identifying numbers because there are reconfiguration possibilities and they can be swapped out easily.
