I would find out why your getting 6.9 mpg in the city. That does not sound right.

Your in town mileage is beyond bad.

I have a 2004 Excursion with 35" tires and do a LOT of idling but still get 11-12 MPG in town. Once the temps get below Zero it goes down to around 9MPG.

I would check for codes and see if there are any stored sounds like you have something going on.

Also your air filter is good till the filter minder says it is bad, those things are built like one for heavy equipment and can take some serious amount of dirt dust and bugs and still flow adequate air.

OK i will take it some were to ck for codes, cus this mpg is killing me
i saw the air filter dirty and i replaced it thinking that the filter minder was bad cus it was showing that it was almost new, man i was hoping the air filter was the problem, now my hopes are down again.

My 05 Ex averages around 19 MPG city and highway so something is definitely wrong.

Did you buy this truck as a daily commuter or to use it for work and hauling?

Was the EGR valve sticky (could be unburnt fuel)? Any exhaust smoke? I would make sure the MAO sensor hose and EBP tube was clear. Might even be worth taking the turbo off and cleaning/inspecting it.

Any gauges? Boost, fuel pressure, and EGT would be handy to have.

If you are serious about tracking it down, you probably need an AutoEnginuity (and even then it may be impossible).
When was the last flash update of all your processors? Since you bought it used, who knows what programs the previous owner was trying to run.

A properly running F250 6.0 is going to get better fuel mileage then a F150 5.4 I don't know about the 4.6 engine. The only disadvantage is the extra cost of diesel over gas.

Im new to the diesel world.
What is a MAO sensor and EBP?
I can take the turbo off and clean it if that will make a difference.
I have no gauges. The guy told me everything is stock and he has never done anything to it. Is the dealer a good place to take it for a flash update on all the processors or shoud i find a private garage that can do it?

Flash at the dealership ($100 - $150).

I mis-typed, it is MAP sensor (not MAO).

I have pics of the MAP and EBP in an album. I will post links in a little bit (or you could search through them). Also, my spreadsheet discusses them - do an Excel search for MAP or EBP.

Edit - link to the album:

Also - I asked a question on the EGR valve earlier ...... what did it look like?
Also - Any exhaust smoke?
