92 F800 fuel leak
hey guys. i have a 92 F800 with a small fuel leak somewhere around the fuel filter bracket. this is a 7.8 inline 6 diesel. im told this engine was made in brazil. the leak isnt from the filter seal itself...just from the general area. any ideas on this? also does anyone know anything about the reliability of these engines? truck has what i believe is an allison auto 6spd. starts right up with just a bump...even on a cold day, uses no oil, and oil runs clean. turbo charged w/intercooler. 60K miles...dumptruck. ive never seen this engine before and am wondering if this is a reliable engine or not and will i have trouble finding parts etc. thinking about selling it for a tandem but really dont know if id be passing along a lemon or what its worth as i bought this rig at auction. thanks for any help with this.

The 7.8 is a Brazilian engine for Ford, made by New Holland. They are very reliable. Parts are getting harder to find, but if you have a good parts guy at a Ford dealer, you'll be ok. The fuel leak could likely be the housing for the filter block. If someone overtightened one of the fittings, it can easily happen. I'm using the 7.8's little brother the 6.6 in my engine swap, if that says anything....and I consider myself a reasonably knowledgeable diesel guy.

They run even better when you crank up the fuel, and advance the timing a little in em. Much more pleasurable to drive.

A little about diesels? id say you wrote the book. i checked out the pics and videos. that suburban was awesome. too cold to mess with mine today but ill look into this next week. the melt down has me a little concerned tho as i have a driver who i cant even trust to fuel it much less pay attention to temps. think ill try it for grins and turn it back once im done. would like to crank up my 7.3 tho. what chip if any do you recommend for that engine? there are lots on the market but i trust you to make the riht pick. wish i lived closer. id give anything to help instal that 6.6 into that 67. gotta be alot of suspension work to be done underneath 1st i guess. i have a 91 S10 that id be interested in doing something with on a smaller scale. i will also send you a donation just for grins. 7 K is gonna be a challenge to come up with @ 1 to 5 clams a pop. rub that out and make it 5 to $10. anyone interested will toss that much in as easy as they would a buck. im going to my buddys dads house today and look around. he has alot of older iron laying around w?cummings etc. ill let ya know what i find...giood luck and keep those pics and videos coming!

Big thanks sirrr. I do appreciate it. The 7.3 is not something I follow that close, but a good bang for the Buck is a Hypertech tuner. Best to visit that forum for best advice. The S10 would be a lot of fun with a Cummins 4bt. Great power and economy. Yes, the 67 will need a bit of help to fit that much iron in it, but you should hear it run on the stand...makes a Cummins sound like a little toy.

not a problem. i watched your video of the 6.6 on the stand. sounds good. my S10 has the 5sp std tranny. will i be able to use it or do i have to swap it out for another 1 and if so what do you recommend. also what did you do underneath to support this weight? this may be more than i can handle but sure would be nice. also who do you recommend to rebuild my injectors. i cant afford the $2500 to buy new ones and looking at em it seems all i need to do is swap out the orings. also how in hell do ya pull the tips out of these injectors? any special tool needed?
