1969 Crew 8 lug. Will like 1985 8 lugs rims work??

My father-in-law picked up a 1969 Ford crew cab 8 lug rims, 4 speed 390 2wd.

The truck has split rims, and 25 year old tires. I work at a tire shop and I have some 245/75/R16's for him. I would like him to find some 8 lug wheels that aren't split rims.

What factory 8 lug ford rims will work with this truck?
What years? A guy in my area has some 8 lug steels off a 1999? or do I have have to keep within a certain era like only up to 1985 or 1995.

Sorry know nothing about the older fords.

If I remember correctly 97 is the cutoff year, when they went metric.

99' and up Super Duty's have 8-170 metric pattern. As long as the trucks aren't duallys, any Ford 8-6.5" bolt circle wheel up to that point (pre Super Duty) will work. GM wheels have too small a center hole.

Yup, I have 84 rims on my 69 right now.
If the truck has factory disk brakes with the giant Dayton calipers, then you will have to be careful in wheel selection. Those calipers typically only fit under the 16.5" rims, but you may be able to find an aftermarket 16" wheel that will clear them.

The truck has split rims so im wondering if it has 16.5 inch wheels and disks I will know in a bit. The tires are quite old but even the older tires would say 245/75/R16.5 and his tires just say R16.

Ive got a lead on some 16'' rims off of a 1994 8 Lug truck for $60.00

I have had 16" splits before, but never 16.5. You also will never have a 16" tire on a 16.5 rim. The rim itself measures 16 and 1/2 inch diamter at the bead. If you were to try to put a 16" tire on a 16.5 rim, you will have dangerous and catastrophic results.

The old bias ply tires were generally marked 7.00 R16

The correct term is lock ring wheel, everyone calls these split rims though. Split rims were actually 20" wheels that joined together in the center (also known as suicide wheels). Split rims (technical term is the RH5 wheel) have been outlawed by OSHA,
lock ring wheels are still serviceable as long as the components match. There were no 16.5 inch lock ring wheels. Just thought you guys might want a little clarification.

Picked the set of basic 16'' steel wheels. They say ford all over them and measure 8X6.5".

They have the steel shorty valve stems I was told to keep them in because they are stronger and don't leak. Not sure though, I woudn't mind going to a new set of 2'' rubber valve stems.

So im going to have a set of 245/75/r16 toyo's that are 25 years old, and lock ring wheel's sitting here. Gonna throw them up on a local classified site for $100.00 Wonder if any old timer would want lock ring wheel's?

You can get new steel valve stems as well. They are stronger, but get buggered up easier too if anything gets to them. Both styles have their good points and bad points.

The small rubber stems are only rated for 45psi, typically. The steels are rated for 80psi, same as the rims should be. Pull the nut off the backside of them, install new washers and have new cores put in when you have tires put on, and you'll be all set.
