I understand there are two types of camshaft's for the 292. There is one with a groove in the center journal, and one with a drilled hole. Assuming I dont have the original cam, how do I know wich one is correct for my engine?
I don't believe it really makes a difference. Over the years Ford has gone back and forth with the grooved cam/crankshaft jopurnals as well as solid or plain bearings or grooved bearings. The groove helps oil get to it's next destination. When I worked at H-M we used either with no preference given to the application.
I believe most new cams available for the Y-Blocks these days are the grooved type but as Moto Mel stated I don't think it make a whole lot of difference.
