Cruise control --- whiplash!

ok, not whiplash but jesus, tonight was one of the first times i used the cruise control since i've had my truck. i must say, the cruise control works (i think) but leaves something to be desired. my specs are in my sig if i matters but driving with cruise on felt like someone was pressing gas, let off, gas let off, gas, let off.... it isn't good for the neck. can't the computer find a happy velocity medium instead of accelarating?

i was going around 55mph and my truck's an AOD (it was in OD) so I would think it should be smart enough to find the happy medium at one speed. (i live in NJ and everything is flat here so the grade didn't matter). is this just how it is?

It's not working correctly. I would inspect the linkage to the throttle. If it's hanging up and the cruise servo is having a hard time pulling on it, it can pull harder and harder as the vehicle is going slower and slower, and when it finally gets it to move, it moves too much and then it has to release it again.

Certainly not right- Mine is almost imperceptible unless you hit a good grade.

I've never had the joy of troubleshooting one, so I'd do what franklin says first, but I'd also point out that it's a vacuum based system, so give the vacuum lines a looksey and perhaps toss a vacuum guage on the engine if you have one, to see if everything is ok there.

Here's a photo of my linkage at the engine above the plenum. There are 2 cables that go to it. The one in the front is nice and secure but the one in the back is loose. I suspect this is my problem. Anyone have a pic of theres to I can see if I'm missing a piece, or mine's broken or whatever the problem is?
