cooper H/t vs. ATR Help Quick!

Local store is having a short term sale with buy 3 get one free on cooper tires and a $75 gift card. With the tires, mount, balance, and an alignment...about $460 OTD. Should I get the cooper H/T or the ATR. H/t is supposedly smoother, and 10,000 miles more life allegedly, but the ATR looks like more of an aggressive tire for some snow and mud. I have a 1980 F-150 2WD and I need all the grabbing power i can get since it isnt 4wd. The guy suggested the H/T, but I think he is just selling what he has more of because the ATR feels better in my mind. Help! Thanks!

here's the info from the cooper website. it might help you out a bit more with your decision.

ATR:
Cooper Tires - Discoverer ATR - All-Terrain Tires

H/T:
Cooper Tires - Discoverer H/T - O.E. Replacement Tires

don't feel pressured to buy something due to a sale though. do your research and shop around. there are a lot of tire choices out there and lots of deals to be had.

I have been waiting for sales.....This is the best deal out the door around here. there are coopers on it now, and they have lasted 6 years and been ok. I have been looking at almost every tire outlet around here and the STEALership and this is the best deal around. I just want the most bang for my buck and feel like I wont end up in a ditch in 3 inches of snow.

have you checked out sites like tirerack.com? i've ordered many tires through them over the years with zero complaints. you can have tires shipped to either your residence or a shop. just another idea.

You could put the more agressive ones on th e back and the ht's up front. If you are going to be driving a 2wd in snow and mud get an agressive tire or snow tires. At least get the atr's. I've got really agressive studded tires in the rear that work well in mud and snow and are ok on the highway (noisy as hell though) ATR's all the way around would work too but you would probably need to keep them rotated for max life.

I just looked at the links and that atr doesnt look all that agressive. They'd probably work pretty well on the ft and rear.

I got ATR's about 6 months ago because Cooper stopped making the Radial LT's I have used for 20 years in my size and load.

New they were horrible about picking up small stones and though they're better now they still have this annoying trait.
I cannot speak about their snow traction but if rain traction is an indicator it is going to be a interesting winter.
I'm often parked in the mud on jobsites and the ATR's seem to do "ok".

The HT is a highway tire, just that.
Quiet and long lasting but not for traction in bad conditions.

The above is only my personal experience and I probably don't drive the same truck as you or the same way as you, so consider my perspective.
