well i'm getting close to pulling the 302 out of my Dumpster project and now have to seriously make up my mind on what i'm putting back in it. i really have my heart set on a 460 for it, but i've been kicking around the idea of putting in a 351w that's been sitting in my garage for a few months.
i have a complete parts truck with a '86 460/C6/tc combo, but the motor needs to pulled apart and bearings installed and a head replaced. my other options are a '84 460 out of an ambulance which also needs some work, a '69 lincoln 460, '71 lincoln 460 or a '72 351w that has 3k miles on a fresh rebuild. the windsor would be the easy drop in and go choice vs the additional work to put in a 460. seriously, i'm just getting a little overwhelmed by the amount of stuff i need to get done before the first snow.
this is going to be a street legal trail rig, not a trailer queen. i haven't nailed down my gearing yet, but it'll probably be in the 4.56 - 5.13 range. i'm also planning on going with 37" tires. my biggest concern is how the windsor would do with this setup. ideas and input would be greatly appreciated. thanks ahead of time guys.
351w with a proper cam to go along with your gearing and convertor. You will be able to handle the revs better. If you want ***** out tourque, and dont mind keeping rpm's low rock the 460
I had a guy trying to convince me that the 429's were a better engine to build than the 460's because of smog crap and weight, but I decided to keep my 6.9L diesel instead...
