Debating on trading the mustang for a F150
For a while now, I have been debating on getting a truck and finally found one that I like. It's a 1998 F150 with 140,000 miles but the engine has been swapped. It now has a crown vic non pi 4.6 with low kms and an intercooled pro charger on it.
Also has a 6" fabtech suspension lift and a 3" body lift. And some other stuff.
The paint on the truck itself is in good shape, in the pics it's just dirty and covered in bird ****. Also the front and rear bumpers were originally chrome but got painted over with black but weren't primered right. So they will need to be redone.
The guy wants to trade his truck plus $1k for my car. The truck is in need of some bigger tires and needs a dyno tune.

And here's my car. It has 150,000 miles on the body and engine. Runs great.
1999 Mustang GT 5 speed
Black with black/charcoal cloth interior.
front real oem 99 cobra bumper off of a cobra
245,000 kms 4.6L Still runs great and never gives me any issues at all.
Has all the standard power options like windows, locks mirrors, trunk. And 2 remotes/ 2 keys.
I bought it 2 years ago when it had 219,000 kms. It was bone stock down to every detail (except a king cobra clutch) and most parts replaced were with OEM ford parts.
Since I got it I have upgraded exhaust with flowmasters and O/R H pipe (still air cared for another year). And I still have the original H pipe.
B&M short shifter
Sequential tail lights ( I also have stock harnesses)
Added the 01+ hood scoop
Moved the stock spoiler back a few inches.
Alpine Mp3/aux cd player, US acoustics amp with 2 10" JL subs.
Bilstein front struts and tokico rear shocks.
Eibach sportline lowering springs
18" chrome bullits with 255/45 rear tires and 245/40 front tires.
Shorty antenna
I do Mobil 1 full synthetic oil changes every 5k
One inner and one outer tire rod were replaced within the last year.
I replaced the spark plugs a few months ago with NGK Iridiums.
Mac Fenderwall Cold air intake
5% tint on the 3 rear windows
What do you guys think? Would it be a fair trade? Should I be weary about a truck with a lift that size and a swapped engine plus the super charger?

Personally Id keep the stang, IF you want a good truck(Ford) i would find one that is stock, and lower miles showing.Im an "old fart" but IF i were to buy a truck,I would want to do any "mods" myself.(Personally I keep all my vehicles stock)
If you are happy with the Mustang(mine was a 1970) keep it,and find yourself a good used OEM(stock) F-150.

I agree keeping the stang. I know how you feel about not having a stock truck. But heres the good part. You get a truck that is in good shape then you customize it to your personality. It's your blank canvas, plus you know that the work is done right. I have an 01 f-150 that I would trade for your car.

keep the stang and wait until a good 150 or 250 comes along. mod the truck as you want. it is easier to do your own work than fixing sombody elses mistakes!!! been there done that. Also with a good truck you can then mod the stang for track racing and you will have a tow vehicle just food for thought

My question I would ask you to consider, is if I was getting by with a Mustang right now, why do I NEED a truck. If you don't haul heavy loads or trailers, you probably don't need a truck, in which case the Mustang is more practical, more fun to drive, and actually probably more fuel efficient.

Have to agree with Khan! Had a similar choice six years ago when I decided to purchase a boat. Was driving a 99 GT convertable Mustang that I loved, as the girls did too!
In 2004 found a 02 Fx4 super cab F-150, off road package and tow package with 12k miles on it. With the choice made, it turned out to be a no-brainer and good decision!
If it's a statement you want to make, keep the Mustang...

hey I trade a 88 mustang GT convertable away in 2005 for an Excursion. The reason fro the trade was i needed a truck to pull a 7000lbs travel trailer. I got the TT and thought my Expedition could pull the trailer but it struggled. that why i got the V10 Excursion. Just this week i finally got a new project to work on a 99 F150 4x4 it is in good shape but my son and i will work on it together until he gets his Drivers liscense. So my point is keep the stang unless you are pulling. Or are you after something for the snow???????

Some good sense here.
You could just as easily end up with a less expensive 4x4 F-150 like my parents owned - VERY conservative drivers, took care of it, I bet it's one of the motors that will make it past 350k miles if the new owners take care of it too.
Or you could buy a truck that looks like the owner had an aggressive side, and liked to push the truck's limits.
I'll take the babied one for $4000 Alex.
Keep the stang until you feel like you're getting a good trade (key is - don't trade it... sell the stang as an owner to a buyer, buy a separate truck you want).
There does come a time when the advantages of driving a truck finally beat those of driving a sporty car in a lot of our lives. I find it WAY easier to navigate traffic (I don't care how much faster the Porsches and 'vettes are down here - they ALWAYS end up behind me because they can't navigate the better lanes (even with them cutting people off and me just driving safely) on the ten-lane highways (5 each way), and instead ride slower traffics' bumpers. It's crazy, I tell you, to always lead vehicles that are worth ten to twenty times what mine is worth, and who are driving over-aggressively, but I do it all the time.)
I can't tell you the numbers of accidents and debris I've avoided by seeing farther (over and around the traffic ahead of me), too.
Then, too, I get to see the countryside on drives, where-as the sports cars can't see much past the guardrails. Oh, and driving in super-heavy rain? Better there, too. Easier to see, or even find, in parking lots? Yep. Easier to change oil. Easier to change anything (save for those damned rear spark plugs on these years' F-150's). I could go on, but I bet you'll find the rest on your own when you get one.
